Job DescriptionTo provide legal solutions to complex legal and business challenges to mitigate against legal risk and partner with the business on the implementation of policies to comply with legal and regulatory requirements and business processes.
Provides guidance and management to more junior legal advisors.
Are you someone who can:Establish, align, and manage target and budget goals whilst ensuring effective control of costs to increase cost efficiency.Identify and communicate potential financial risks with a legal implication.Cultivate and manage objective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including external attorneys, FirstRand Group Legal Services, FNB Legal Services, business, and external stakeholders.Deliver exceptional service that exceeds customers' expectations through proactive, innovative, and appropriate solutions.Maintain expert knowledge on relevant legislation and industry best practices, providing proactive advice and solutions to stakeholders.Research and provide legal opinions on various issues and new business projects to proactively identify, assess, and manage legal risk.Provide timely, professional advice and solutions regarding legal matters to FNB personnel, resulting in business sustainability and risk mitigation.Maintain an updated 'library' of advice requested and provided in FNB, including updates on legislation.You will be an ideal candidate if you can:Draft and review legal agreements, including Service Level Agreements and other documentation for various client or channel campaigns.Have experience dealing with the Protection of Personal Information Act, specifically regarding record management and data processes.Understand the framework of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act and its legal risks.Monitor, analyze, and evaluate the impact and legal implications of developments in the financial services industry.Identify, report, and mitigate legal risks at a system, product, process, and/or channel level within the business unit.Benchmark current practices against the FRB legal risk management framework and adjust practices as necessary.Implement, benchmark, and improve all business processes in the designated area of responsibility.Actively monitor changes in law, regulations, technology, and industry practices, ensuring appropriate interventions are defined.Draft, review/update, and renegotiate legal agreements and documentation to manage legal risks.Monitor the relevance of legal documentation to ensure consistency and compliance with legal standards.Manage litigation matters involving the business and liaise with the Ombudsman when necessary.You will have access to:Opportunities to network and collaborate.A challenging working environment.Opportunities to innovate.We can be a match if you:Proactively resolve disputes to avoid litigation and Ombudsman referrals.Benchmark current practices against the group legal risk management framework and adjust as necessary.Ensure legally compliant best business practices and policies to protect the organization from legal action.Identify areas for improvement or 'loopholes' in current mandates and provide general legal advice.Identify and communicate current and anticipated legal issues/risks.Plan and manage performance, skills development, employment equity, talent, and culture of the team to improve innovation and competencies.Manage personal development to enhance own skills and competencies.Apply now if you are interested in taking the next step.
