Truworths is recruiting for a suitably qualified and experienced Legal Advisor to join the Truworths Corporate Legal team. The successful incumbent will provide legal advice and support for the Truworths Group with entities in South Africa and the UK. This is a contract position based at the Truworths Head Office in Cape Town.
Key Responsibilities
Drafting, reviewing and approving commercial agreements.
Providing legal advice, guidance, assistance and written legal opinions on various commercial legal matters.
Advice and assistance on effective new legislative enactments, amendments and matters affecting the Company.
Working knowledge of the National Credit Act (NCA), the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), the Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA), Tax legislation and company and consumer legislation.
Facilitate dispute resolution and litigation process. Oversee the investigation of the facts and merits of various litigious matters, assessing the feasibility of proceeding with legal action. Consult with business representatives and attorneys where necessary. Follow through and monitor the progression of the legal action to its conclusion including Court actions.
Mergers and Acquisitions advice including due diligence investigations.
Management and advice regarding trademarks, copyright and design matters.
Specific knowledge of and enforcement of restraint of trade.
Pro-actively fully understand and be able to communicate and advise on pending legal changes/Acts that will affect the Company.
You will be responsible for regulatory and compliance matters.
Qualifications and Experience
10+ years of relevant (post articles) experience.
Proven track record of working on corporate commercial matters and negotiating commercial contracts.
Knowledge and experience of contracts.
Knowledge of NCA, CPA, POPIA, and FICA (knowledge of Tax Law may be beneficial).
IT competence in Microsoft Office software packages e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel and Power-point (essential).
