JOB PURPOSE: To assess, advise and mitigate the legal, commercial, reputational and regulatory risks and opportunities facing the organisation.JOB OBJECTIVESTo provide legal support to the group on labour law and company employment policies and procedures. This includes contractual agreements, recruitment, performance management, corporate transactions, disputes, grievances, and disciplinary matters.To serve as the legal partner to the Clicks property department by providing legal advice, drafting, and negotiating lease and other agreements in order to realise the best commercial outcome for Clicks whilst ensuring that its risk is mitigated and managed within an accepted level.To provide end-to-end support in the day-to-day commercial operations and assist in the achievement of strategic business objectives and mitigate legal and regulatory risk by drafting and vetting contracts and other commercial documents.Providing trade and non-trade dispute resolution support.Providing input on legal strategies to internal stakeholders for significant matters impacting the organisation.Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to obtain relevant information to determine how a legal or operational matter is handled.Supporting the use and management of the group's contract drafting and contract management system.Developing efficiencies and processes within the Legal Department (including supporting the rollout and continued management of the contract management system and preparing standard operating procedures) and broadly within the organisation (by identifying work methods to facilitate the efficient and effective conclusion of agreements, negotiations, and resolution of disputes with counterparties).Providing and facilitating training.JOB RELATED KNOWLEDGEGeneral understanding of South African law and how laws are made and enforced.Contract law.Company law.Property law.Understanding key retail commercial drivers for the industry and the regulatory landscape impacting the industry.General understanding of information technology (software licensing, master service agreements, and statements of work).JOB RELATED SKILLSLegal drafting (advanced).Detail-oriented whilst remaining practical (advanced).Application of SA law (advanced).Drafting and comprehension skills (advanced).Ability to work independently and within a team (advanced).Ability to maintain strong levels of output under pressure (advanced).Ability to prioritise numerous competing tasks and meet deadlines (advanced).Ability to communicate well orally and in writing (advanced).Strong management, planning and organizational skills (advanced).Ability to negotiate with all stakeholders (advanced).Business acumen.An understanding of legal operations and technology.Understanding and application of the law in all the jurisdictions in which Clicks operates.JOB EXPERIENCE3-5 years post-admission experience working in a law firm, at the Bar or at a top tier corporate.6-8 years post-admission experience working at a top tier law firm, the Bar, or at a top tier, listed or multinational corporate.EDUCATIONAdmitted attorney/advocate at the Bar.Relevant post-graduate qualification in law or business.JOB RELATED COMPETENCIESDelivering Results & Meeting Customer Expectations.Relating & Networking.Applying Expertise and Technology.Entrepreneurial and Commercial Thinking.Working with People.Learning and Researching.Persuading and Influencing.
