The Legal Advisor is a key role responsible for delivering and facilitating legal advisory services to municipalities. This position involves coordinating legal advisory services, liaising with external legal practitioners, government departments, and other stakeholders to ensure that the company effectively supports municipalities with legal expertise.Key ResponsibilitiesLegal Advisory Services: Provide comprehensive legal support to municipalities, oversee and coordinate the sourcing of expert legal opinions, and facilitate the provision of legal advisory services. Engage with external experts for drafting legal documents and manage a platform for sharing legal information with municipal legal practitioners.Drafting and Managing Legal Documents: Oversee all stages of litigation, draft legal opinions, provide legal support, and comment on legislation affecting local government. Prepare and manage legal documents with accuracy and efficiency.Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research to support legal opinions, review and summarize legal documents and court orders, and utilize resources such as the Law Library to update case law relevant to municipalities.Candidate ProfileAbility to operate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.Proficiency in writing legal opinions and providing sound legal advisory services.In-depth understanding of the South African Local Government environment and South African legislation, including the Constitution.Strong ethical standards with a high regard for integrity and confidentiality.Knowledge of public sector and local government legislation, cyber law, and corporate governance.Advanced comprehension of the local government sector from both business and legal perspectives.Qualifications And ExperienceBachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree (essential).Admission as an Attorney is advantageous.Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in legal services, including at least two (2) years specifically in the local government sector.Valid Code 08 driver's license and own vehicle.At least three (3) years of management-level experience within a medium to large organization.Proven track record in successful lobbying and advocacy on critical issues.Previous experience in a multidisciplinary unit and experience in drafting legal opinions.Remuneration Package: A competitive salary package with benefits.Application ProcessInterested candidates should submit their application, including a detailed CV and a cover letter addressing the requirements and responsibilities outlined in this advert.
