CORE PURPOSE OF JOB The core purpose of this post is to facilitate the co-development of knowledge, skills and practice competencies at under- and post-graduate levels to enable students to function effectively within the profession, to supervise research in the areas of Social Development / Social Work and contribute to departmental and faculty administration as required.
KEYPERFORMANCEAREAS Facilitation of learning in the various Social Development Professions under- and postgraduate programs.Taking responsibility for all academic-related activities, including compiling course guides, teaching material and assessments.Ensure comprehensive academic engagement with students.Supervision of research at under- and post-graduate levels.Conducting, publishing and promoting research in Social Development / Social Work.Contribute to academic and operational administration within the department.Identification of students at risk, developing intervention strategies and monitoring student progress.Participation in community engagement and service learning.CORE COMPETENCIES Advanced knowledge of the theory, skills and practice of Social Development and Social Work.Sound experience in facilitating learning and teaching, and practice coordination and clinical supervision in the discipline at a tertiary level institution.Good administrative skills.Ability to contribute to community engagement and service learning.Ability to conduct research, publish, as well as present findings at conferences.Passion to lead underpinned by excellent planning and evaluation skills.Excellent interpersonal relationship skills and ability to work within a dynamic team.MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS Qualifications Bachelor of Social Work qualification + masters degree in social work.
A PhD in Social Work would be advantageous.
Registration Professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
Experience A minimum of two to three years experience in lecturing Social Work at under and post graduate levels at a higher education institution.
Supervision of post graduate research projects.
A minimum of 4 years Social Work practice experience.
Have experience in facilitating learning and teaching on digital learning platforms.
Research. Have published journal articles in DHET accredited journals within the discipline and presented research findings at conferences.
Other skills Program development skills for short learning programmes.
Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, and the public.
Have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power-Point and Outlook).
