LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER IN PSYCHOLOGY (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be expected to:
Engage in teaching, curriculum development, and co-ordination of programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
Supervise postgraduate research commensurate with the post level;
Supervise practical work in the MA (Counselling Psychology) programme, commensurate with the post level;
Conduct research commensurate with the level of appointment and actively contribute to the Department's research profile;
Perform various academic and administrative duties as determined by the Head of Department;
Participate in the Department's strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research, and community engagement;
Contribute to transdisciplinary engagements in teaching and research.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (LECTURER)
A Master's degree in Counselling Psychology;
Registration with the HPCSA as a Counselling Psychologist for at least three years;
Professional practice experience as a Counselling Psychologist, preferably in the field of Community Psychology;
Ability to lecture on topics in community psychology and to implement community psychology projects at the postgraduate level;
Evidence of research productivity (e.g. conference presentations; publications in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent; significant progress in PhD studies).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (SENIOR LECTURER)
A doctoral degree (PhD) in Psychology;
Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Counselling Psychologist for at least three years;
Professional practice experience as a Counselling Psychologist, preferably in the field of Community Psychology;
Ability to lecture on topics in community psychology and to implement community psychology projects at the postgraduate level;
Demonstrated research output, as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent;
Experience in supervising postgraduate research;
Conference presentations delivered;
Lecturing, curriculum development, and administrative experience at tertiary level.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
Ability to train student psychologists and supervise their practical work;
Ability to lecture in at least two, but preferably more, of the following areas at the undergraduate level: introductory psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, psychological assessment, social psychology, developmental psychology, psychopathology, community psychology, critical psychology;
Demonstrated research focus, preferably aligned with departmental thematic areas.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
Experience in lecturing at the undergraduate level;
Experience in lecturing on topics in community psychology at the postgraduate masters-level;
Experience in lecturing or professional training at the postgraduate (MA) level;
Evidence of discipline-based community engagement;
A doctoral degree (added advantage for lecturer level).
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
