PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The person to be appointed in this position is responsible to teach primarily in the field of Old Testament Studies (and cognate fields like Semitic Languages) to undergraduate students in the relevant theological programs. On postgraduate level, the position requires that the person to be appointed equips students with critical skills to understand recent developments in the field of Old Testament and African theologies or theologies in Africa, and subsequently contribute to research in the fields.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and Learning: Teaching a range of Old Testament subfields on undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Additional teaching content as required by department from time to time, in other theological disciplines.Research: Demonstrate continuous research activity in line with the strategic planning of the chosen research entity.Community engagement: Be able to link teaching and research to meaningful engagement with the community in a context of choice.Minimum requirements Lecturer: A Master's degree in Old Testament (NQF 10)A minimum of 2 years' experience in teaching in a tertiary context.Senior Lecturer: A Ph.D. degree in Old Testament (NQF 10)A minimum of 3 years' experience in teaching in a tertiary context.Membership in relevant scholarly societies.Successful guidance and deliverance of postgraduate students on Masters level.Record of research outputs on senior lecturer level.Associate Professor/ Professor: A Ph.D. degree in Old Testament (NQF 10)A minimum of 5 years' experience in teaching in a tertiary context.Membership in relevant scholarly societies.Successful guidance and deliverance of postgraduate students on Masters and PhD level.Record of research outputs on associate professor / professor level.KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: Should function in accordance with the NWU teaching/learning and research policies within the faculty, including the willingness and ability to contribute to the focus of the faculty.Should make contributions to current subject knowledge on national and international levels.Should be able and willing also to teach in other field(s) of theological study, if required.The candidate should be able to handle typical academic administration (meetings, marks, study material) effectively.Appropriate IT knowledge and skills, and willing to undergo further training in this regard.Be able to accept work from different academics within the scope of the core task.KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: Ability to contribute to good relations among staff members in the faculty.Should be able to work in a team setup with regard to teaching, administrative duties and research.Candidate should respect the foundation of the faculty and be willing to assist in promoting the faculty's theological inclusiveness.Be able to build a good rapport with the students and act as an inspirational role model.REMUNERATION The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
