LECTURER (MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be responsible for:

Teaching undergraduate medical nutrition therapy conditions with a specific focus on paediatrics nutrition;
Clinical supervision of undergraduate students in the medical nutrition field of practice;
Planning and coordination of the 4th year internship programme (including, but not limited to lectures, placements, facility accreditations and site visits);
Participating in skills training necessary for paediatrics medical nutrition therapy (undergraduate and postgraduate);
Coordination of undergraduate modules, including updating course content with current literature and intervention strategies and revising study guides;
Maintaining the electronic learning environment for students;
Performing other academic and research duties as may be delegated by the Head of Department;
Participate in the Department, School of Healthcare Sciences, and Faculty strategic initiatives relating to teaching and learning, research and community engagement;
Assist with marketing/outreach activities of the department (may require weekend work or after hours).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A Master's degree in Dietetics;
Current registration with Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent practitioner (registered dietitian);
One DHET accredited publication.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

Good verbal and written communication skills;
Good interpersonal and mentoring skills;
Good computer skills;
Ability to work independently and in a team;
Scientific writing skills.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

Recent and up to date clinical experience including paediatric nutrition;
PhD in Dietetics;
A valid driver's licence;
At least one year of teaching, assessment and clinical supervision of students at a Higher Education Institution.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
