Preference will be given to applications with sufficient background in Indigenous Knowledge Systems. The targeted applicants must have at least 70%, preferably a female, black South African, Coloured, Indian candidates, should be appointed from these groups.The nGAP represents the ninth phase of the Staffing South African Universities Framework (SSAUF), which the Minister of Higher Education and Training approved at the start of 2015 as an initiative to improve the academic staffing capacity of South African universities. The programme aims at addressing the urgent and challenging imperative to recruit, support, and retain black (African, Coloured, and Indian), female academic and disabled staff to address the under-representation at all levels in the sector. It is a key vehicle to contribute to the transformation of the academic staff profile in disciplines of greatest need. nGAP employees will participate in a six-year developmental programme in terms of which they will be employed on a permanent full-time basis at the NWU under the University's normal conditions of service. They will be expected to register for and complete their doctoral studies, participate successfully in the DHET's Staffing South Africa's Universities Development Programme, and work under the supervision of an appointed mentor. In order to achieve the developmental aims of the programme, nGAP employees will have a reduced teaching load over the first four years of their appointment. They will be expected to work for an additional two years at NWU after the completion of the six-year developmental programme.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:APPLICANTS SHOULD HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE WITH AN ACADEMIC AVERAGE OF 70% FOR THE MASTER'S DEGREE, THIS IS ESSENTIAL. PROOF OF RESULTS MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE APPLICATION.Duties & ResponsibilitiesPURPOSE OF THE POSITIONThe New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) position at lecturer level will be part of the academic staff at the IKS Centre and will teach modules in the BIKS programme. Indigenous Knowledge Systems is a cross-cutting pillar, and the BIKS at NWU has four (04) mainstream areas which include: Indigenous Science, Technology, and Innovation; Indigenous Health; Indigenous Agriculture; and Indigenous Arts and Culture. The lecturer will especially be responsible for teaching modules in the Indigenous Science and Innovation Stream. The individual will register for a doctoral programme as soon as possible; conduct research in IKS and publish the results in appropriate outlets. The individual will further be expected to participate in community engagement.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Teaching of modules in Indigenous Knowledge Systems.Participation in development activities as part of the SSAU-Development Programme (SSAU-DP).Desired Experience & QualificationA master's degree (NQF level 9) in Indigenous Knowledge Systems with an average of 70% or above.
