The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum development (especially at postgraduate level), and will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematical Sciences students for their exit-level projects. Furthermore, the successful candidate will provide support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in learning and teaching, research, Work Integrated Learning, and community engagement.Job Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceMaster's qualification in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, Biomathematics, or equivalent. If the qualification is in Mathematics, there must be evidence of a strong focus on application in the thesis and/or coursework.Additionally, a base qualification in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.Advanced programming proficiency is required in at least one of the mathematics software or languages used in the Department, namely, Python, MATLAB, or R.At least two years' relevant full-time working experience, of which at least one year must be in a lecturing role at a higher education institution.Recommended: Industry experience in Applied Mathematics or Data Science would be advantageous.Experience teaching or working in an Engineering context would be advantageous.Key Performance Areas / Principal AccountabilitiesTeach mathematics and related subjects up to at least the Advanced Diploma level, including in Engineering qualifications.Develop reusable learning and teaching materials for the subjects being taught (e.g., lecture notes, tutorials, online content).Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department.Participate in curriculum development, particularly at postgraduate level.Supervise and assess undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematical Sciences students for their exit-level projects.Participate in research and produce DHET-accredited publications at a rate of at least 0.5 publication units per year.Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.Assist with marketing and student recruitment activities.Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department.Strong oral and written communication skills.Organisational, planning, and time management skills.Adaptability and willingness to innovate.Strong student focus.Administrative skills and attention to detail.Research and academic writing skills.Proficiency in English.General InformationNB: PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SYSTEM DOES NOT ALLOW APPLICANTS TO UPLOAD CVs.
