It is a prestigious programme to enable young black candidates to follow a career as an academic. The nGAP employee will participate in a six-year developmental programme on a permanent full-time basis under the University's normal conditions of service and will work under the supervision of an appointed mentor. In order to achieve the developmental aims of the programme, the nGAP employee will have a reduced teaching load over the first three years of their appointment.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Teaching and LearningDevelop the skills to be able to deliver quality teaching and learning pertaining to the discipline of Urban and Regional Planning.ResearchIdentify and develop research to ensure excellence in Urban and Regional Planning research. Produce a peer-reviewed article per year.AdministrationDevelop the appropriate skills to ensure effective administration of academic activities including teaching and learning research and management.Community ServiceIdentify community engagement projects and be actively involved in the planning and implementation.Desired Experience & QualificationAn MSc in Urban and Regional Planning (NQF Level 9). The Master's degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above. Please attach proof of results in your application.Applicants must be SA citizens and 40 years or younger of age.ADDED ADVANTAGES:PhD in Urban and Regional Planning (NQF Level 10).A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years' teaching and learning experience as a Teaching Assistant or Lecturer.A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years' experience in Research.Accredited with the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN).Registered with the South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN).South African Planning Institute (SAPI) membership.KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).Knowledge of the appropriate assessment theory and practice regarding teaching and learning.Research methodology.Academic and technical writing.KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:Good interpersonal relations.Critical thinking.Leadership.Professionalism and ethical behaviour.Social responsibility.REMUNERATION:The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.CLOSING DATE: 26 April 2024PLANNED COMMENCEMENT OF DUTIES: As soon as possible.Kindly take note: applications must be submitted online through the official NWU vacancy website.
