LOCATION The campus is situated in a beautiful area, next to a nature reserve and countryside, on the outskirts of the city of Gqeberha, one of the more peaceful cities in South Africa. The campus is one kilometer from the Indian Ocean where dolphins and whales can be regularly seen. On campus, vervet monkeys, mongooses and buck can be seen. Mountains are readily accessible a little way inland. Traffic is usually light and parking plentiful. The weather is typically sunny with occasional rainy spells.
CORE PURPOSE OF JOB The purpose of this academic post is to develop and facilitate learning and teaching, the acquisition of knowledge and skills for learners within the Industrial Engineering profession at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. To participate in, contribute, conduct and lead research and innovation, to develop research capacity, do postgraduate supervision in the department. To contribute to engagement and service to the community, discipline, and the profession, and to be involved in the core functions of the Nelson Mandela University.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Facilitate learning and teaching programmes, processes, and objectives in line with the professional body requirements. Develop the research capacity and output of the department. Contribute to the publication output of the department. Develop the academic and practical capacity of the students. Supervise postgraduate students and projects. Mentor students intensively. Practical and technical ability in the field of Industrial Engineering. Highly motivated and diligent working style. Perform administration including preparation for and participation in quality review and accreditation processes. CORE COMPETENCIES In-depth knowledge of the theory and application in at least two of the fields of: Automation, Simulation/Software Programming, Additive manufacturing; ERP systems. Preferable experience in teaching and facilitating learning at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels. Ability to facilitate learning and teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Ability to communicate effectively and in multi-cultural environments. Contribute to the creation of knowledge through research, innovation and engagement. Proven ability to work as part of a team. REQUIREMENTS In order to be considered for appointment to the post of Lecturer, candidates must have:
Relevant Master's Degree in Industrial or Mechatronic Engineering with two years academic or related experience. Or 4-year BSc/BEng/BEngTechHon in Industrial Engineering or Mechatronic, with three years academic or relevant experience, AND registered with ECSA as a professional (Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng). Candidates who are in possession of a relevant Engineering Master's degree and who are not registered with ECSA, must be eligible and willing to register as Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng within 12 months of appointment. Preferable undergraduate level teaching experience in any two of the fields of: Additive manufacturing, Renewable Energy, Energy efficient technologies, Automation, Control Systems, Simulation/Software Programming, ERP systems. Significant hands-on experience in the relevant fields. Candidates may be required to teach across departments and evening (17h30 onwards) classes when required. Interviewed candidates will need to give a 15-minute presentation in the form of a lecture in the fields mentioned above, demonstrating their capacity, experience, successes, and what they have learnt in the process. The grade at which successful candidates are appointed will depend on their qualification and professional experience and status.
