Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies
The Department of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies, Rhodes University, invites suitably qualified candidates to join their team.
Main Objectives
All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level.
The Requirements
Lecturer:
A PhD in Linguistics or Applied Language Studies is required. Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis for examination will be considered (proof of examination is required).
Candidates must have expertise in linguistic approaches to Discourse Analysis. The ability to teach in the following areas will be an added advantage: Sociolinguistics, Corpus Linguistics, and/or Computational Linguistics.
The successful candidate must be willing to contribute to other modules in the department.

Selection Process:
At the interview stage, shortlisted candidates will be expected to give a short presentation.

Remuneration per annum:
Lecturer (based on 2024 remuneration scales)
Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R600,141.00
Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R784,132.00
