Vacancy: Lecturer in Film and Television & Cinematography (full-time)

Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation of creatives and shaping the future of the film industry? If so, this opportunity is for you! The School of Film Arts at Open Window is seeking to appoint a lecturer in Film & Television in a permanent post.
About The Open Window
The Open Window (OW) is an accredited private higher education institution recognised for setting innovative standards in the field of visual arts and digital sciences. Founded in 1994, OW has a focus on providing a unique tertiary platform where practice-led tuition links traditional fine art practice with the applied arts.
Role Description:We are interested in appointing a candidate that seeks meaningful connection through the facilitation of learning and student mentorship. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic group of academics and professionals in Open Window's School of Film Arts.
General Lecturer responsibilities:

Facilitation of learning: Teach at an undergraduate level in the subject Film and Television & the Cinematography Focus Area. The creation of moving image work with students which may include sourcing or writing scripts, planning shoots and filming, sometimes on location.
Curriculum & course development: Where relevant, maintain and develop existing course content.
Course content and documentation: Provide course notes, and document the process of mentoring students, where relevant.
Student support: Mentor students and provide ongoing support through contact sessions and digital channels and fostering a dynamic learning environment and nurturing students' growth.
Assessment: Conduct formative and summative assessments and record and finalise student achievements within the subject.
Event participation: Attend and participate in Open Window related events and initiatives such as open days and graduation ceremonies, as well as supplementary opportunities where relevant. Host screenings on campus regularly.
Ideation and discussion: Participation in strategic initiatives related to teaching, creative production, research and social engagement.
Subject administration: Setup, send, record, file and backup subject-related documentation and processes. Plan and manage weekly classes. Arrange and conduct workshops and/or contact sessions with students where needed. Organise guest speakers where needed.
Contributing generally to the work and culture of the School of Film Arts.
Collaboration: Collaborate with other lecturers, subjects and departments in order to facilitate growth and development.
Subject specialist: Continue furthering in-depth knowledge of current trends in industry, maintain a progressive attitude in the discourses related to Film Arts, and the practical processes related to the creative field.

Role related software knowledge requirements:The role requires competency in the following software:

Adobe, with proficiency in Premiere Pro.
Mac OS competency.

Emotional maturity and soft skills for interpersonal development of both colleagues and students.
Problem-solving and problem framing skills / ideation and conceptual abilities.
Be able to cope under pressure, and meet deadlines.
Be dynamic, adaptable, and a creative thinker with administrative skills.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate should have a relevant NQF Level 8 Honours Degree, or higher in the field of Film and Television or similar.
An up-to-date portfolio showing relevant practical work.

Added advantages for this position:

Candidates with a Masters will be given preference.
Strong internet connection and digital workplace tools (Computer, webcam etc).
Knowledge of Adobe After Effects and digi compositing would be a bonus.
Excellent theoretical knowledge.
An ability to lecture in related theoretical or related practical subjects within the department (Production Design, Sound Design, Screenwriting, Screen Acting).
Industry experience in the fields mentioned above and/or teaching experience at a tertiary institution.

Remuneration:
R320 000 – R400 000 per annum
(negotiable within the indicated annual remuneration range, as commensurate with the incumbent's overall experience and qualification level).
No additional benefits are on offer, other than a Retirement Annuity of which Open Window contributes towards.
