Job description The Faculty/Dept./Division Childhood Education at the University of Johannesburg offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees programmes. In the professional undergraduate programmes on the Soweto campus, teachers qualify for posts in the foundation and intermediate phase of schooling. In addition to the class work, the undergraduate programme is extended by a practicum component where students spend time in a primary school that is associated with the university.
Responsibilities: Teaching English for the Primary School and English methodology modules (ability to teach English language/grammar, children's literature, and English methodology) Research in English in the primary school and/or primary school teacher education Community engagement in the area of language, literature and/or literacy Administration of university teaching, research and community engagement in the portfolio of the position Postgraduate supervision of students in areas related to the position Active participation in work-integrated learning (WIL) in the department Minimum requirements Minimum of a Masters in English Education or English Studies or Applied English Language Studies Experience in primary school teacher education for English, including integrating disciplinary content knowledge with teaching practice Experience in Honours supervision Some evidence of research output, appropriate to the position Competencies and Behavioural Attributes: Computer Literacy Fluent English language use Strong interpersonal relationships Analytical thinking and coordination skills Able to work with teachers in in-service development programmes Recommendations: A PhD, or close to completion of a PhD, related to English education in the primary school Experience in supervision at Master's level Experience in incorporating technology in teaching and learning Enquiries: Enquiries regarding the job content: Dr K Fonseca on Tel: (011) 559 5110
