Job Purpose
The lecturer must be able to teach at undergraduate level in the Biomedical Sciences Department with the aim of producing future Medical laboratory science graduates who will be able to register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, advance to higher qualifications and participate in research.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Master's degree in the field of Biomedical Sciences or equivalent qualification.
At least 2 years lecturing experience and 3 years clinical practice experience in medical laboratory diagnostic laboratories.
Be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Scientist.
The incumbent will be expected to enroll for the HDHET or equivalent to improve lecturing skills.
Recommendations:
Preference will be given to applicants who hold a Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science degree and are registered with the HPCSA in one of the following professional categories: Clinical Pathology, Cytogenetics, Virology, Histology, Microbiology, Clinical chemistry.
Postgraduate teaching qualification.
Recent track record of research supervision and publication.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
Lecturing of subjects included in the curriculum of the BHSc: Medical Laboratory Science.
Develop appropriate teaching material of subjects being offered on the BHSc programme.
Participate in Curriculum development.
Perform academic administration tasks including those involved in the articulation programme.
Promote and participate in community engagement projects and maintain links with role players.
Be involved and assist with quality assurance and regulatory body accreditation.
Be involved in any other Learning, Teaching, Assessment and administrative skills as required by the department.
Identify at risk students, develop intervention strategies and monitor student progress.
Plan, coordinate and supervise academic activities.
Assisting with departmental initiatives, encompassing the development, support, implementation and evaluation of strategic and operational plans.
Conduct research and contribute towards departmental research output.
