CORE PURPOSE OF JOB The Faculty of Education at Nelson Mandela University invites applications for an Associate Lecturer/Lecturer position in isiXhosa Home Language Literacy on the Foundation Phase programme in the Primary School Department. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic excellence of the faculty by teaching Foundation Phase students. The Associate Lecturer/Lecturer will also engage in research activities, supervise student projects, and participate in the administration and development of educational programs within the Primary School Education Department.

The Incumbent Will Be Required To: Develop and deliver isiXhosa Home Language Literacy at Foundation Phase level.Design course curriculum, instructional materials, and assessment strategies that promote active learning and student engagement.Conduct research regarding isiXhosa language teaching or related fields, leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at conferences.Supervise graduate students' mini research projects and dissertations, providing guidance and support throughout the research process. An ability to supervise postgraduate students in isiXhosa will be an added advantage.Participate in academic administration, including serving on faculty committees, contributing to curriculum development, and assisting with accreditation processes.Engage in professional development activities to stay abreast of advancements in isiXhosa language teaching, educational pedagogy, and research methodologies.Collaborate with colleagues within the department and across disciplines to promote interdisciplinary research and educational initiatives.Represent the department and the faculty at academic conferences, workshops, and public events, contributing to the university's reputation as a center of excellence in isiXhosa studies.Contribute to community outreach programs and initiatives that promote the use and preservation of isiXhosa language and culture in local and regional communities. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Facilitate learning, teaching, and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level.Conduct research and publish in peer-reviewed academic journals / academic platforms.Participate in academic and community engagements.Contribute to Faculty administration as required. CORE COMPETENCIES Demonstrate sound knowledge and expertise in Foundation Phase isiXhosa Literacy.Ability to facilitate teaching, learning and assessment of isiXhosa-related content to diverse cohorts of education undergraduate and postgraduate students.Ability to supervise postgraduate students. Ability to supervise postgraduate students in isiXhosa will be an added advantage.Possess the ability to develop a curriculum and teaching resources for the Method of isiXhosa offered in the Primary School Education Department.Proficiently navigate and utilise the Moodle Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate effective online teaching and learning experiences. This includes showing expertise in managing course materials, assignments, and assessments within the LMS platform, as well as providing technical support to students and colleagues. Additionally, demonstrate proficiency in customising and optimising the LMS interface to enhance user experience and engagement.Conduct scholarly work with a focus on teaching isiXhosa Home Language Literacy in the Foundation phase.Possess effective communication skills (verbal and written), good facilitation, training, and presentation skills. Requirements An Honours or Master of Education degree and an undergraduate qualification in Foundation Phase.A two-year experience of teaching Foundation Phase isiXhosa in the school context.Experience of teaching in Higher Education.Experience in advocacy for literacy at Foundation Phase.Sound disciplinary and content knowledge of IsiXhosa Home Language Literacy.Sound knowledge of various techniques for teaching isiXhosa Home Language Literacy.
