Vacancy: Lecturer & Associate Lecturer in 3D/2D Animation (full time)
The Open Window School of Animation Arts is seeking qualified candidates for the positions of Lecturer and Associate Lecturer in 3D/2D Animation. About Animation at The Open Window:
The Animation program emphasises both the artistic and technical aspects of animation, preparing students to excel in various areas such as concept development, motion design, and visual effects. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills, allowing students to create compelling animations that meet industry expectations.
Role Description: We are interested in appointing candidates who seek meaningful connection through the facilitation of learning and student mentorship. The successful candidates will join an enthusiastic group of academics and professionals in Open Window's School of Animation Arts.
On a broad level, candidates will be responsible for teaching 3D/2D animation subjects, from certificate to undergraduate, on various topics. This role entails the following:
Associate Lecturer responsibilities:
Assist in teaching and administrative duties under the supervision of a Lecturer or Subject Manager.
Focus on supporting the academic team with general lecturer responsibilities, without involvement in assessment or curriculum development.
General Lecturer responsibilities:
Facilitation of Learning: Teach at an undergraduate level in 3D/2D Animation in both physical and digitally mediated environments.
Curriculum Development: Maintain and develop existing course content.
Course Content and Documentation: Create and provide course-related notes, briefs, and other documents.
Student Support: Mentor students and provide ongoing support through contact sessions and digital channels while fostering a dynamic learning environment.
Assessment: Conduct formative and summative assessments; record and finalise student achievements within the subject.
Event Participation: Attend and participate in Open Window-related events such as open days and graduation ceremonies.
Collaboration: Collaborate with other lecturers to facilitate growth and development.
Subject specialist: Candidates should possess an in-depth knowledge of current trends in animation production, a progressive attitude towards the field, and familiarity with software used for 2D/3D asset production.
Role related software knowledge requirements: The role requires competency in the following software:
3D software by Autodesk / Maxon / Blender
Adobe software (Photoshop, AfterEffects)
Office software (Excel, Powerpoint, Word or similar)
Additional Game Development knowledge is advantageous

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum NQF Level 7 qualification (Degree or equivalent) in animation, multimedia, or related fields.
An up-to-date portfolio showing relevant practical work.
Added advantages for this position:
Practical experience in commercial productions.
Experience in facilitation of learning at tertiary level / curriculum development.
Honours / Master's qualification.
REMUNERATION:
R300,000 – R400,000 per annum (neg.)No additional benefits are on offer other than a Retirement Annuity to which Open Window contributes.The annual remuneration package is negotiable and will be commensurate with the incumbent's overall experience and qualification level.
