Lead/Senior Firefighter Regional areas Positions exist for the use and application of Firefighters within the Fidelity Group to respond and deal with any and all fire-related incidents.
The main responsibilities include but are not limited to response to fire incidents and firefighting, emergency rescue services, rendering basic medical care, fire prevention and training activities, operating and maintaining firefighting equipment and apparatus, and all related work as required in order to protect the lives and property of the clients of the Fidelity Group.
Key areas of responsibility: (Not totally inclusive) Responding to fires, rescues, and related emergency and non-emergency humanitarian incidentsResponding to incidents involving hazardous substancesExtricating and/or releasing casualties and carrying out emergency operations as directed by the level of authorityResuscitating and treating injured persons and carrying out emergency operations as directed by the next level authorityOperating a range of equipment to control, manage, and extinguish firesUndertaking fire protection duties in situations that potentially threaten lives or property and having available appropriate equipment as directed by supervisorsPreparing for emergency incidents and protection duties under the guidance, mentorship, and supervision of seniors and officers in chargeParticipating in training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness training as directedTraining all relevant employees on the theory and practice necessary to fight firesAdvising on preventative and corrective actionsImplementing the relevant procedures, strategies, and using the proper equipment to promote local or national security activities for the protection of data, people, institutions, and propertyPerforming basic level maintenance on equipment to ensure operational readinessChecking, cleaning, testing, and maintaining vehicles and equipmentCompleting computerized occurrence logs to maintain proper records of daily occurrencesConducting health and safety inspections to maintain a safe work environmentCompleting pro forma documentationParticipating in Departmental Health and Safety Committee meetingsDriving and operating a range of heavy and extra heavy specialized vehicles/appliances to or at emergency incidents as directedOperating a range of machinery to hoist, lower, gain access to buildings, and/or extricate victims, equipment, and any other persons at emergency incidentsEnsuring that the fire apparatus and associated emergency equipment can be safely and effectively operated and utilized to save lives and propertyAssisting with Fire and Safety training, fire safety inspections, life safety education, and training drillsEnsuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act in respect of the shift, by conducting the necessary safety inspections and ensuring subordinates are provided with, use, and maintain prescribed protective clothingEnsuring compliance with prescribed equipment maintenance schedules and effecting repairs where possible at shift levelCompleting all shift-related administrative routines specified in departmental policy and orders to ensure efficiency and maintenance of prescribed records/registers under the auspice of the Fire ChiefUndertaking supervisory and line functional personnel-related functionsQualifications, experience, and other competencies required: Grade 12 as a minimum school qualificationIFSAC AccreditedNFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 certificationFirefighter II CertificationFirefighting training and at least 2 – 3 years related experience are essentialValid code C1 driver's license with PrDPAdvanced driving experience advantageousMedically and physically fitGood understanding and practice of Fire prevention proceduresKnowledge of Fire-fighting systems, namely systems used to extinguish fires, the classes, and chemistry of fireClear criminal recordCapability to react within efficient time frames to emergency situationsAdministration, interpersonal communication, and customer liaison skills are requiredHazmat experience and knowledge essentialEMT certificationFirst Aid levels 1 to 3Core Competencies: Strong communication skills, both verbal and writtenSound understanding of the Hazmat guidelinesSound understanding of the Security Industry and how to act within the code of conduct of the Group and Regulatory AuthoritySound understanding of fundamental elements related to firefighter instructor applications within an operational role
