Job description:Design and verify systems to meet manufacturers' guidelines, functional requirements, and certification standardsDevelop CAD models (2D & 3D) and perform calculations for system components and equipmentDetermine the build sequence and "design intent" for various systemsEnsure that specifications issued to production are complete and up-to-dateInvestigate and implement new technologies to enhance quality and reduce costsMaintain an accurate and updated Bill of Materials (BOM)Conduct critical quality checks for new parts and engineering changesSpecify and test new equipment to assess feasibility for implementationEnsure project deadlines and deliverables are metManage and prioritize workloads, guide and mentor team membersDevelop and implement annual training plans in consultation with the department managerOversee team performance, manage attendance, and handle disciplinary issuesConduct interviews and manage recruitment for the Systems Engineering teamManage the Engineering Change Request (ECR) system, including project assignment, monitoring, and approvalApprove all technical documents related to Systems, such as drawings, SOPs, and BCRsProvide on-site support during prototyping and ECR implementationOffer technical input and clarity to Manufacturing, Quality, and Process EngineersAssist Logistics & Stores Departments with BOM queries and part usageProvide feedback on warranty claims and support the Commissioning teamSupport Technical Purchasing and Project Management with technical queries and project updatesSkills & Experience:Engineering Expertise: Minimum 5-10 years in boat, yacht, or ship building, with extensive design experienceCAD Proficiency: Advanced skills in SolidWorks CAD and SolidWorks PDMLeadership: Proven ability to manage a team, balance workloads, and meet project deadlinesTechnical Insight: Strong understanding of design for manufacturing and build sequencesAttention to Detail: Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail3D Perception: Strong spatial awareness and an eye for design aestheticsBoating Knowledge: Interest in boating and boat building; sailing experience is advantageousSoftware Proficiency: Experience with Syspro is a plusQualificationsMinimum: National Degree (NQF Level 6) in Engineering or related field (Boat/Yacht/Ship Building), ideally in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical EngineeringPreferred: BTech/BSc/B.Eng. degree (NQF Level 7/8) in a related engineering fieldEmbrace this opportunity to lead a dynamic team in an innovative boat building environment.
