Lead Electrical Engineer (Pr.Eng)

Job Description Planning and design of HV power distribution and transmission substations from 33kV up to 765kV. Responsible for handling multiple projects and prepare and provide guidance in the development of the engineering deliverables for electrical substation projects including layouts and drawings, selection of substation equipment, equipment and construction specifications and all associated electrical calculations and studies.

Development and approval of project design documentation, BOQ's, technical specifications, perform concept and/or detail design layouts, and providing a detail design package that complies with applicable local, international and client specifications and standards. Prepare and present concept and detail designs to the client TEC/DRT forums for acceptance.

Engage with other project stakeholders and team members and coordinate overall design packages and requirements. Technically lead junior engineers, drafters, and designers to deliver successful projects. Ensure design schedules are met including providing regular status feedback to Engineering Manager and Project Managers/Engineers.

Coordinate and review technical contract documents and perform contractor design reviews. Identify and analyse design changes, modify design drawings and documents accordingly. Manage, attend and participate in FAT and SAT planning and execution. Provide engineering support during construction. Resolving and responding to technical queries from contractors.

Plan, coordinate and support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities. Attend and contribute to site and project technical meetings as necessary. Prepare EOJ final handover documentation including as-builts as necessary. Prepare expressions of interests (EOIs), tenders and request for quotations. Develop design tools and standards. Assist and participate in business development and company marketing activities.

Requirements BSc Eng, BEng degree in Electrical Engineering Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer 7 – 10 years of experience in the design, management and execution of Distribution substations up to 132kV - Eskom design experience is a must. Design experience on Transmission substations would be highly advantageous Solid understanding of primary plant equipment technology, specification, sizing and selection Experience designing substation earthing systems using CDEGS or Autogrid Pro Experience within a consulting or EPC or Eskom environment is a must Design experience on overhead lines would be an advantage Experience with Renewable Energy technologies such as PV, Wind and BESS will be an advantage Project management and engineering is essential, especially managing stakeholders and other discipline engineers Experience with developing and approving project design documentation, BOQ's, technical specifications, perform concept and/or detail design layouts, and providing a detail design package that complies with applicable local, international and client specifications and standards Experience with leading the preparation and submission of bids for energy infrastructure is an advantage Proficient with Microsoft Office such as Excel, Word, Power Point and MS Projects Excellent verbal communication skills Excellent technical report writing and presentation skills Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines Excellent organizational skills Ability to lead a team of young engineers to deliver on projects Self-motivated and independent Assertive and confident Team-player Available and willing to travel within South Africa and abroad Benefits Exciting career growth prospects with a diverse range of projects covering renewables, distribution and transmission infrastructure.
