Our client is looking for a Landfill Engineer to join their team, to tackle the complex task of expanding their landfill while maximizing efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.
Responsibilities: Design new or expand existing landfills, including site selection, geotechnical analysis, drainage systems, gas collection and control systems, and liner systems.
Prepare and submit permit applications to regulatory agencies, and ensure compliance with all environmental regulations.
Oversee the construction of landfill infrastructure, including liner installation, leachate collection systems, and gas collection wells.
Develop and implement operational plans for waste placement, compaction, and cover material application.
Monitor landfill performance through data analysis and inspections, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Design and implement environmental monitoring programs for groundwater, surface water, air quality, and landfill gas migration.
Analyze data, identify potential environmental risks, and implement mitigation measures.
Prepare reports and presentations for regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
Develop and implement closure plans for landfills reaching capacity.
This includes final grading, capping, and vegetative cover installation.
Monitor closed landfills for potential environmental impacts and perform necessary maintenance activities.
Develop and implement safety protocols for landfill operations.
Conduct safety training for staff and contractors.
Communicate with the public about landfill operations and address concerns.
Prepare public education materials and participate in community meetings.
Prepare and manage budgets for landfill projects.
Track project progress and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Skills: Strong knowledge of solid waste management, landfill design, and environmental regulations.
Proficient in engineering software for site design, data analysis, and modeling.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
3-5 year's experience in: Earthworks, Waste/Landfill Management.
Qualifications: B-Tech/BSC Civil/Rural Engineering qualification.
Professional Engineer (PE) license is desired.
