WHAT IS ON OFFER
Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for X4 Lab Shift Chemists to join the team in Steelpoort. This individual will be responsible for supporting the Laboratory Manager with the day-to-day analytical services and ISO/IEC 17025:2017 / Quality Control compliance within the Alfred H Knight South Africa Steelpoort laboratory. Responsible for carrying out review of analytical methods and standard operating practices and reporting of results are of high degree of precision and accuracy to ensuring that high-quality analytical service is provided to clients including meeting reporting deadlines on the various types of samples /commodities submitted to the laboratory, analytical evaluation of results and to ensure that all Quality Control measures are upheld to the highest standard.

Required Qualifications

Grade 12 (Maths and Science)
National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry

Required work experience

5 years minimum experience in the laboratory
Thorough knowledge and understanding of ISO 17025 requirements
Knowledge ICP-OE's and classical wet chemistry
Knowledge LIMS system
Good knowledge of analytical method development and validation knowledge

Responsibilities

Ensuring at all times that a high degree of accuracy and precision is applied to methods and procedures through incorporating and promoting good laboratory practice principles.
Responsible for ensuring that work throughput is followed in accordance to documented methods and procedures. It is the post holder's responsibility to inform the Lab/QC Chemist of any failure in compliance to documented methods.
Workload that is assigned to the post holder is effectively managed through the most cost-effective utilization of time and resources.
Advising the Laboratory Manager of repetitive technical problems relating to day-to-day analytical procedures and standard operating practices.
Maintaining records and laboratory data such that work is clearly and easily auditable and traceable.
Ensuring that all analytical methods and standard operating procedures are reviewed, updated and approved and only authorised copies are in use.
Must be able to record, evaluate and validate all instrumentation, (ICP, Turbidity & Wet Chem) data.
Prepare standards and stock solution and prepare calibration standards.
Completes tasks within the allocated time and plans work for Analysts to ensure that overall service goals of the laboratory are met.
Responsibility to ensure turnaround time is adhered to at all times, for work specified in regard to analysis.
Responsibility to initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation from the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
Review and Authorisation of analytical results in the Laboratory Manager's absence in accordance with the Laboratory's Scope of Accreditation (as a Technical Signatory).
Ensuring the confidentiality and impartiality of all results at all times.
Assisting the Laboratory Manager in setting out and implementing suitable training programmes that will ensure that the post holder is sufficiently well trained to carry out their analytical responsibilities accurately and efficiently.
Assisting the Laboratory Manager with the training of Laboratory Analysts.
Ensuring laboratory equipment and instruments are maintained at all times with faulty equipment being brought to the attention of the Laboratory Manager immediately.
Interact with Service Engineers during servicing or maintenance of the instruments and advice service engineers of challenges/problems encountered if any.
Performing routine maintenance of equipment as instructed by the Laboratory Manager and ensuring that the Lab Analysts carry out their daily checks record data appropriately.
Performing instrument calibrations when required, performing instrument checks when required and as instructed by the Laboratory Manager.
Assisting the Laboratory Manager with Method development, Instrument calibration and Method Validation, as required.
Control and monitoring of stock levels, with the assistance of Laboratory Analysts, to ensure all critical chemicals, consumables and equipment spares are readily available and minimum quantities are kept in stock to avoid shortages which can cause delays in routine analysis.
Control and monitoring of Laboratory QC charts, ensuring that all traceability is readily retrievable and all required charts, worksheets, etc. are up to date at all times.
Investigation of all Non-Conformances and customer complaints timeously, and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
Analyse Proficiency Testing data for validation of analytical accuracies.
Providing technical advice and support to other laboratory personnel as required, on technical problems.
Ensuring that all laboratory work areas and workstations are kept clean and tidy – i.e., Good Housekeeping; and that appropriate PPE is used at all times.
Complies and conforms to the Laboratory Quality Management System ISO/IEC 17025:2017 / SANAS Accreditation requirements.
Other ad hoc duties as may be requested by the Laboratory Manager, Analytical Services Manager and General Manager from time to time.
