Exciting Opportunity: Laboratory Safety Specialist at Lehigh University Are you a passionate advocate for safety with a keen eye for hazard identification and mitigation? Lehigh University is seeking a dynamic Laboratory Safety Specialist (Position Number S88200) to join our team in the Health and Safety department under the Campus Safety Division.
In this crucial role, you will work closely with the EH&S Director to support building and laboratory managers, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for our teaching and research facilities. Your expertise in laws, regulations, and best practices will be instrumental in resolving issues related to laboratory safety, with a particular focus on hazard control hierarchy for chemical, physical, biological, radiological, ergonomic, and other hazardous factors.
Key Responsibilities:Review, evaluate, and analyze laboratory environments for potential hazardsDesign programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injuryOversee the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive Laboratory Safety programConduct inspections and incident investigationsIdentify and protect against general issues such as electrical, physical, and fire hazardsExercise the authority to Stop Work when conditions present an imminent dangerQualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, other science related field or the equivalent combination of education and experienceThree to five years of related work experienceFour years of relevant experience: creating and delivering laboratory safety (e.g. chemical hygiene, biosafety), laboratory risk management, chemical/waste shipping, and regulatory compliance training programs for various audiences, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceProven technical knowledge in laboratory safety and hazard mitigationAbility to plan and work independently, with strong problem-solving skillsExcellent conflict resolution and public speaking abilitiesFamiliarity with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practicesCommitment to continuous learning and professional developmentJoin Lehigh University, a dynamic and vibrant institution dedicated to excellence in research, teaching, and service. This position is a Grade: 9 - 40, offering an approximate salary of $54,390-$66,190. The duties of this position may allow the employee to work partially remote as deemed appropriate by their supervisor. This position is responsible for driving University-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver's License and a good driving record is required.
