BASED DURBAN
The Laboratory Technologist is responsible for monitoring chemical processes and testing products as part of quality assurance. This role involves performing relevant lab activities such as setting up lab equipment and preparing chemical solutions. The Technologist will conduct tests, interpret and analyse data, compile results, prepare reports and present conclusions.
Key Performance
Daily validation of laboratory equipment and updating the calibration records.
Routine analyses of incoming raw materials that need to be analysed.
Final testing of products produced as per test methods and reporting variances.
Entering QC data on the QC spreadsheets.
QC testing of toll manufacturing raw material samples and finished blends, updating both raw material and finished products cardex.
General housekeeping of the laboratory as per Good Laboratory practice.
Maintenance of laboratory equipment and scheduling of external calibrations as per calibration inventory.
Assist with the research and development of products to meet customer requirements.
Assist with stock taking.
Conducting research on customer complaints and reporting findings.
Creating Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for all products manufactured and updating on drop box system.
Sending of COAs upon request either from sales department or toll customers.
Purchasing of laboratory reagents required for testing and standardizing them.
Printing of passed products batch stickers.
Filling of batch sheets, BP COA of raw materials and Panoil COAs.
Arranging for Monthly Panoil microbiological testing and analysis and capturing of results.
Handling stocking and storage of all retention samples of finished products and raw materials.
Requesting labels for Engen products for blends manufactured.
Sending of samples for finished products that require external testing to designated laboratories and capturing results provided.
Adhering to ISO 9001:2015 and FSSC 22000 requirements.
Generate standard operating procedure as and when required.
Provide staff with training on standard operating procedures applicable to the laboratory department.
Assist with research and development requirements as per the company standard operating procedures as and when required.

Experience and Qualifications
Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or BSC Chemistry.
Minimum 3 - 5 years' experience in a manufacturing chemical industry.
Grade 12 or equivalent is essential.
Knowledge of Chemistry.
Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and instruments, including calibration and maintenance.
Valid Driver's License and reliable transport (Minimum Code 8).
Familiar with regulatory standards such as ISO will be advantageous.
Computer Literacy
Intermediate knowledge required MS Office - Excel and Word essential.
