Laboratory Technician Overall Responsibility:
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting analyses on production processes, recording and analyzing data, and reporting findings. This role is critical in ensuring product quality, maintaining equipment, and supporting manufacturing excellence initiatives.
Main Responsibilities Focus Area 1: Conducting Analysis: Perform routine analyses on raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, and utilities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Conduct daily microbiological and chemical tests on beer and utility samples.Focus Area 2: Analyzing and Reporting Quality Data: Verify that products conform to brand and product specifications. Where deviations occur, initiate problem-solving and escalate as necessary.Submit data promptly to align with production schedules.Focus Area 3: Laboratory Equipment Maintenance: Ensure laboratory equipment is well-maintained and operational.Provide first-level problem-solving support for laboratory instruments used in quality analyses.Focus Area 4: Supporting Manufacturing Excellence: Assist with implementing Quality Pillar requirements.Support and comply with Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Pillar requirements.Participate in problem-solving activities.Support the quality 5S drive.Minimum Requirements: NSC Matric Certificate with Core Mathematics, Biology, and Science.Degree or diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.Minimum of 1 year in a laboratory or food production environment.Preferred Skills and Competencies: Proficiency in sterile sampling techniques, microbiological plating, and related methods.High attention to detail with the ability to work accurately.Computer literacy and proficiency in relevant software.Physical capability to meet the demands of a production facility.Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a team environment.Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.Note: Specific duties/responsibilities will vary from time to time: the above list is intended to indicate the general nature of the post and is not exhaustive.
