Role Purpose: To effectively manage the analytical lab according to FLS requirements and contractual obligations.This entails a multidisciplinary approach to HSE, operational throughput, equipment maintenance practices, quality systems, customer interface and staff management amongst others. Your responsibilities Meet Operational Objectives Compile goals and objectives to support the business strategy and to also ensure a culture of continuous improvement. Prepare, implement, evaluate, and adjust processes, plans and budgets in order to achieve the above. Ensure these plans are understood and adopted in all areas and that staff are measured accordingly. Develop performance measurements to measure the success of the above and monitor on a regular basis. Continuously review and improve our processes to ensure they are cost effective and ensure the efficient utilization of all resources. Ensure company HSE, financial and other policies are implemented and enforced. Quality systems, processes and procedures Manage the quality system to ensure compliance to international standards and attain accreditation status. Manage the quality management system to ensure compliance to international standards the Plant is certified to and to maintain the accreditation status by implementing effective management systems as prescribed in the relevant standards, company policies and laboratory policies. Ensure all necessary procedures are documented, reviewed and updated as required. Ensure all staff understand and comply with these policies and procedures. Staff Management Create and maintain the desired culture within the team through the development and motivation of all staff. Ensure each role within the department is clearly defined, aligned, optimally utilized and motivated. Ensure training and development plans exist and are followed. Ensure adequate performance measures are in place and individual performance is measured on a regular basis. Ensure sustained superior performance is recognized and rewarded where applicable. Ensure succession plans and retention plans exist for key positions, where possible. Meet Contractual Obligations Manage the "Operate & Maintain" service contract with Client(s). A deep and thorough understanding of the detailed scope of work, commercial terms, technical detail and quality requirements of the contractual agreement. Implement the requirements through detailed operational plans and schedules. Report on all contractual requirements to the customer and all internal matters within FLS. Work with internal leadership and the customer to facilitate annual updates to the contract or as and when needed. Ensure that work done is aligned with the accreditation status of the Spectrochemical Laboratory. Regularly attend internal & external meetings. Forecasting & Planning Understand the current and future business needs. Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of current resources to achieve these business needs and implement plans for additional resources where necessary to minimize impact on the business. Manage and control the budget on an ongoing basis to ensure that costs are managed according to the budgetary allowances. Assist the customer with OPEX and CAPEX planning and budgetary preparations. Maintenance Management Maintain equipment according to reliability centered maintenance practices and ensure uptime and reliability. Manage the maintenance of all equipment in the lab and area(s) of responsibility according to a structured and documented maintenance plan. Ensure parts availability and optimal use of resources. Utilize windows of opportunity to maintain equipment and ensure maximum overall equipment efficiency (OEE). What you bring Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Metallurgical EngineeringMDP or any management related program. Experience Extensive experience 8+ years in a similar environment and 5+ years in a management position within Laboratory.Commercial Management & Contracting skillsExperience in setting up reports / dashboards / KPI's.Sampling, preparation & analysis of Iron OreLaboratory functions and tests, XRF specific experience and LIMSKnowledge of advancements in the analytical and testing fields (e.g. technology, equipment, laboratory practices etc.)Chemical and metallurgical principlesExperience in the application of ISO 17025 standard is criticalISO systems knowledge HSE, quality & environmental management standardsProject Management experience is advantageous.
