ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Main purpose of the role: The Junior Project Manager contributes to the EPIC processes such as Planning, Project set-up, Project execution, monitoring and control and close out until the successful transition to operations and asset management.
Main purpose of the department: The Project Management department is responsible for the successful technical project business development and safe implementation of the Company's projects, from bid preparation to handover of completed assets to the Asset Management team.
The Project Management team is composed of different profiles respectively in charge of the following: Technical Leaders and Procurement Leaders provide the following services as part of a project team during the project business development phase:     - Leading the procurement and technical development of renewable energy projects across sub-Saharan Africa, in a variety of project roles     - Supporting the business development teams in preparing bids for renewable energy opportunities in coordinating and providing all necessary industrial         and commercial inputs,     - Advising on suitable project procurement strategies in consultation with the development and engineering teams,     - Advising bid/business development teams on suitable construction and operations budgets,     - Negotiating and concluding key project documents (PPA, IA, connection agreements), defining project industrial setup and delivering the final industrial         (construction and operational) contracts,     - Interfacing, collaborating or negotiating with various project stakeholders (Network Service Provider, LTA, Insurers, Lenders, OE, Contractors, IPPO,                    partners, EDF R corporate, etc…)     - Advising other departments on project implementation related topics.
Project Managers, Programme Managers and EPC Directors are involved during the implementation phase and provide the following services:    - Transition involvement with Development between Preferred Bidder and Financial Close (between Milestones M3 and M4).
   - Project management during:        o Early Works activities        o Construction execution phase    - Overall execution responsibility from Financial Close (or Investment Decision as applicable) from Milestone M4 to Milestone M5.
   - Transfer of responsibility to Asset Management at the end of the implementation phase    - Support Asset Management during the warranty/ defects notification periods.
The team applies EDF Renewables' framework for Excellence in Project Implementation and Construction (EPIC), which is aligned to the international Project Management Institute Project Management Body of Knowledge.
Key responsibilities: Pre-Financial Close: Assist the development and engineering and support teams after Preferred Bidder prior to Financial Close of a project to prepare for the implementation phase.
This will provide exposure to Project set-up in preparation for construction readiness:     - Project implementation set-up     - Planning     - Project permitting     - ED and stakeholder engagement     - Project governance     - Contract negotiations for site activities related contracts (CRM, accommodation, car fleet, etc…)     - Eskom Self-build Agreements Project Execution: The Junior Project Manager shall work within the project team and be involved in the following activities:     - Project Site establishment monitoring     - Assisting in the coordination of project activities,     - Attending and organising project progress meetings as required,     - Recording, compiling, transcribing and distributing meeting minutes as required,     - All technical aspects of project delivery to include, but not be limited to provide inputs on:           o Contractor design adherence to contract specifications,           o Consulting with internal and external technical specialists as required,           o Monitoring the implementation of quality assurance/ quality control inspections on site and at off-site manufacturing facilities,           o Requests for information and/or technical queries (as relevant) to contractors and ensuring satisfactory close-out,           o Technical queries arising from the Lenders' Technical Advisor or Independent Engineer (or similar)           o Technical design interactions between contractors and Eskom,           o Monitoring contractor compliance with relevant project permits,           o Highlighting any emerging/ urgent technical or contractual issues to the Project Managers,           o Identifying and tracking technical/permit-related project risks,           o Compiling defects/ punch lists and ensuring satisfactory close-out within contractual timeframes,           o Monitoring testing and commissioning of equipment and systems carried out by contractors,           o Handover and takeover of equipment and systems,           o Project closure activities,           o Hand-over of the project as an operational asset,           o Lessons learned sharing to improve existing technical contract specifications when required.
    - Ensuring contractor compliance with the relevant Health and Safety legislation, internal framework and       promote adherence to industry best practices,      Responsible and accountable for dedicated project tasks / responsibilities     - Responsible for assigned small-scale projects (up to a certain threshold).
    - Supporting one or several PM in order to assist in their absence.
Serving as secondary liaison.
    - Tracking and reporting on physical completion of works on site against project schedule,     - Drafting project progress reports,     - Overseeing employer site inspectors and ensuring construction diaries are maintained,     - Assisting in the certification of milestone payments,     - Adhering to Company policies and procedures,     - Assisting the Project Director and Project Team with any other relevant tasks,     - Responsible for the coordination and management of the punch-lists and accurate 'as built' design, The responsibility of the Junior Project Manager is to generally support the needs of the Project Management team and this may expand to include assistance in the bid and financial close phases of the Project.
Health and Safety Responsibilities: - Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control, and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e., public, visitors and employees of other organizations.
This includes ensuring risk assessments are conducted and mitigation measures are clearly communicated and understood by individuals.
Managers must also ensure that individuals have the necessary understanding, competence, and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.
- Employees are responsible for ensuring they fully understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels.
Similarly, where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and particularly where there are legal requirements, employees are responsible for understanding those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The position reports directly into: Senior Project Manager The position reports functionally into: Head of Project Management QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS Must-have Qualifications and certifications: - Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical related field, - Tertiary qualification in Project Management Preferred Qualifications and certifications: - SACPCMP certification RELEVANT EXPERIENCES Must-have years of professional experiences: At least 2 years relevant working experience or internship in renewables energy Must-have years of industry experiences: COMPETENCIES Technical competencies: - Certification in Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and/or Construction Regulations 2014, - Working knowledge of IFC Performance Standards/ Equator Principles, - General understanding of engineering design and operation of energy generation facilities, - Basic understanding of project construction management, - Ability to understand engineering specifications and construction drawings, - Contract management experience and ability to interpret and apply contract requirements - Excellent MS Office literacy including competency in MS Project, - Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English; additional local language skills are an advantage.
Behavioral competencies: - Strong verbal and written communication skills, - Good administrative skills and organize own work, - Ability to use own initiative to identify priorities, - Proactive, energetic, and highly motivated, - Ability to apply his/her mind and focus on the job at hand, - Ability to work independently and as part of a team, - Excellent problem-solving abilities and good attention to detail, - Possess strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal skills with the ability to think practically while remaining detail-oriented, - Effective time management and ability to meet delivery dates, - Good understanding of the technical design specification and operation of energy projects, - Can accurately judge appropriate quality and importance level of deliverables and act accordingly, - Ability to manage stress effectively in high-pressure situations, - Strong sense of work ethic, discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality, - Willingness to travel to site and other manufacturing facilities as required for the Project.
The role will at construction sites in Northern Cape South Africa, with possible travel across sub-Saharan Africa in future.
Therefore, willingness to travel and a valid driver's license is required, 4 x 4 Driver Competency is recommended.
