Junior Payroll Accountant

Job Title: Assistant Payroll AccountantReporting to: Payroll Manager / Payroll AccountantLocation: Cape TownJob Purpose:The Assistant Payroll Accountant supports the accurate and timely processing of payroll-related financial transactions.
The role works closely with payroll and finance teams to ensure payroll data is correctly recorded, reconciled, and reported.Key Responsibilities:Assist with reconciling payroll accounts with the general ledger, ensuring accurate recording of payroll transactions.Support the payroll team in ensuring correct payroll processing, including calculating wages, bonuses, deductions, and taxes.Participate in internal and external audits by providing relevant payroll accounting documentation and explanations.Respond to payroll-related enquiries from employees, offering clear and accurate information regarding payroll accounting matters.Qualifications & Experience:Working towards or holding a degree in Finance (BCom or equivalent).1-2 years of experience in payroll accounting, finance, or general accounting.Proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with accounting software; experience with payroll systems (e.g.
Sage 300) is advantageous.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, able to explain payroll accounting concepts clearly.Ability to handle sensitive financial and employee information with discretion and professionalism.Skills & Attributes:Collaborative team player, willing to contribute to collective goals.Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
