Position Overview: The Junior Design/Procurement Engineer will support the engineering team by assisting in the creation, development and refinement of product designs. This role involves working closely with team engineers to translate concepts into detailed designs, developing prototypes, and ensuring that designs meet requirements. The ideal candidate is a motivated individual with a strong foundation in engineering principles, eager to learn, and capable of working in a collaborative team environment. The candidate will also explore manufacturing partners and develop and manage the procurement process for various projects. Experience in automation and control systems is advantageous. Key Responsibilities: Develop new product ideas that Flybox intends to bring into the market Use CAD software to create detailed engineering drawings and 3D models Compile specifications and bill of materials Maintain accurate records of design specifications and changes Build prototypes and conduct tests to ensure design meets specifications Address and resolve design issues during production Optimize designs to reduce production costs while maintaining quality. Implement feedback from production and customer use to improve designs Ensure designs adhere to industry regulations and safety standards. Develop process ideas and assist in the R&D goals of the company Explore and manage relevant partnerships for projects Liaise with suppliers, selecting appropriate equipment and supporting with procurement Quality assurance of all our modular insect farming sites and products Aiding and guidance on site to Project Engineers or Engineering contractors as they build Flybox products. Develop procurement schedules in coordination with project timelines. Analyse procurement costs and implement cost-saving strategies Ensure procurement activities comply with relevant laws and regulations. Assist with procurement and exporting/importing of equipment for projects Travelling to project sites (UK, EU & Africa) up to once a quarter to liaise with the team on the implementation of designs and processes Aid in control design, bug fixes and improvements (advantageous) Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design or related Proficiency in CAD software – SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar Basic understanding of engineering principles and design processes Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Excellent communication and teamwork abilities Excellent negotiation and communication skills Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (preferred) Knowledge of procurement processes or supply chain management (preferred) Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks simultaneously Willingness to travel as needed Why Join Us: Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the field of waste-to-value, sustainable agriculture, food security and climate change mitigation.
