DescriptionMy client is looking for a skilled and knowledgeable Accountant/Tax Practitioner (Must be Registered as a Tax Practitioner) to join their team. The ideal candidate will have experience in tax and accounting, particularly in completing income tax returns, evaluating assessments, and managing various tax-related tasks. This role requires a proactive individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and SARS consultants.
QualificationsExperience: Minimum 1 year of working experience in a similar position within a tax and accounting environment is essential.
Education: A degree in Accounting, Tax, or equivalent qualification compulsory.
Certification: Registered tax practitioner – A MUST.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of the Income Tax Act and Tax Administration Act.
Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, client communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Languages: Fluent in both English and Afrikaans (reading, writing and speaking).
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:
• Complete and submit Trust, Individual, and Company income tax returns.
• Evaluate and check tax assessments, identifying and correcting any errors.
• Correspond with SARS consultants and manage tax return queries.
• Understand and adhere to SARS procedures and deadlines.
• Address tax-related issues and queries, providing effective solutions.
• Maintain clear and professional communication with clients regarding their tax matters.
• Assist with various tax queries and ad hoc tax tasks.
• Work efficiently under pressure, meeting deadlines while delivering high-quality work.
• Support other members of the department as needed.
• Liaise with clients to gather information and provide updates on their tax status.
• Handle queries related to tax refunds.
• Assist and review annual financial statements in coordination with the assistant accountant.
• Calculate and submit provisional tax.
• Manage tax clearance certificates, foreign investment tax clearance, and ensure tax compliance with SARS.
• Handle VAT and PAYE registrations.
• Request tax directives and handle payment suspensions/appeals.
• Manage mail, calls, and appointments with SARS agents.
• Attend meetings with SARS representatives as required.
