Job description Projects (Without supervision) With the help of engineering theory and process flow knowledge, the Technician is: Responsible for the planning and alignment of designs into business strategies and objectives, and with industry best practices, ensuring effective cost management, adherence to safety regulations and effective client service. Prepare scope of work, specifications, bill of quantities and tender documents according to client needs & specifications, and continuous liaising with the client thereon. Responsible for continuous improvements in designs ensuring optimal and cost efficient implementation. Responsible to coordinate and implement design initiatives upon completion of project scoping, tendering and contract preparation with the client. Responsible to compile all information necessary for the manufacturing and software engineering phases of the project (detailed data pack). Project costing. Participate in tender drafting and evaluation meetings. Project bidding participation. Budget control measures for projects. Contract negotiation skills. Maintenance (Corrective, Preventative and breakdown)(Without supervision) You will be responsible for PLC wiring, PLC programming, PLC input and output tagging, SCADA development and fault finding.
Performing calibration and installation of various instruments: Temperature instruments Flow instruments Level instruments Radiation instruments Perform corrective maintenance on instruments and repair any irregularities on allocated machines.
Perform preventative maintenance and repair on process controllers (PLCs, microcontrollers, DCSs, etc.) and instruments Maintenance as recommended by manufacturer Calibrating the instruments to make sure they work properly Software maintenance for all process controllers Perform all kinds of maintenance work and report back to the supervisor on completion Reassemble instruments and replace instruments in system, using hand tools
Assist junior technicians and instrument mechanics in technical problem solving Applying engineering theory in problem solving Applying process flow knowledge in troubleshooting Take over problem solving from junior personnel
Budget control measures for project and maintenance activities Working within stipulated budget Allocating resources to tasks cost effectively Determining the budget required for projects and maintenance tasks Cost control during task execution
Tests the accuracy of various instruments used to meet business objectives such as: flow meters pressure gauges temperature indicators controllers radiation counters or detectors other recording, indicating or controlling instruments to locate defective components in system
Training and Others (Without supervision) Mentoring junior technicians Mentoring Instrument mechanics Acting in the position of the supervisor on request Potential hazard identification and risk assessments before commencing work at hand Enforce ISO 9001,14001,17025 and 18001 among subordinates Quality and environmental issues report back to the supervisor Performing breakdown work on call Reporting back breakdown work on completion
Minimum requirements EDUCATION: Minimum: National Diploma or a Higher National Diploma. Electrical / Instrumentation/Mechatronics
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 3 - 5 years post-apprenticeship experience with knowledge of various instruments (temperature, pressure, flow, level, vibration, radiation, etc.) .This should cater for but not limited to these attributes: Installations Operations Maintenance Calibration
Extensive knowledge of PLC Systems, DCSs and SCADA networks. This should include but not limited to: Installations Operation Maintenance Input/output tagging for PLCs and DCSs Analogue and digital circuitry wiring for PLCs and DCSs Programming of PLCs and DCSs Computer networking fundamentals Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol Knowledge of the OSI model Familiar with industrial Ethernet networks
Knowledge of AC/DC drives. This includes but not limited to: Knowing principles of power electronics Knowledge of electrical machines like motors Sizing a AC/DC drive Wiring the circuits associated with AC/DC drives Programming AC/DC drives Maintenance on AC/DC drives Experience on installation, commissioning and maintaining of instruments, PLC Systems, DCSs, SCADA networks and AC/DC drives. Ability to calibrate all measurement and control systems.
