A vacancy exists for an Infection Prevention Specialist based at Life Bedford Gardens Hospital, reporting to Nursing Standards Manager, Bongiwe Malane. The role is to identify, manage, mitigate, and evaluate infection prevention risks to patients, employees, and the community and business stakeholders.
Critical OutputsExecute the hospital infection prevention strategy.Implement an infection prevention plan aligned to the business objectives of the business unit, based on historic facility experience, incidents, and audit findings.Lead the Infection Prevention Committee and direct reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, trending, and actions of all infection-related incidents or risks.Set the business unit Infection Prevention targets with the Nursing team.Comply with legal and company requirements through internal audits and hazardous biological agent risk assessments.Participate in and manage the close out of findings from the Department of Health inspection.Monitor and evaluate close outs from internal audits and inspections for effectiveness.Surveillance and ReportingIdentify and mitigate patient and environmental risks.Monitor and assess high-risk patients and environments to minimize infection risk.Consult with relevant subject matter experts to take appropriate remedial action.Communicate infection risks, trends, and actions to relevant committees.Occupational Exposure ManagementIdentify and mitigate occupational risks related to hazardous biological agents.Ensure the Hep B programme is offered to all healthcare workers.Monitor and evaluate the placement of high-risk employees.Excellence in Infection PreventionMaintain technical and professional competence in infection prevention.Provide subject matter knowledge and advice to the business unit.Facilitate training in infection prevention practices.Induct new employees in infection prevention and occupational health risk.Outbreak ManagementIdentify and mitigate risks during internal and external outbreaks.Lead the outbreak task team to control outbreaks and minimize further risk.Communicate outbreak status and prevention measures to stakeholders.RequirementsQualified Infection Prevention and Control Specialist with a qualification holding at least 60 credits.Sound clinical infection prevention knowledge.Experience in a specialist unit is advantageous.Under exceptional circumstances, a strong motivation from management may be submitted for consideration.If not trained, the candidate must agree to enroll in the LHC certificate course immediately.Agree to complete the job profile induction programme and the IP introductory course within specified timeframes.Excellent basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).Understanding of the private healthcare industry.CompetenciesLeadership skillsProblem Solving and AnalysisPractical ExecutionBuilding RelationshipsCommunicationKnowledge ManagementRule OrientationResearch SkillsEthical BehaviourResilienceInfluencingCustomer ResponsivenessEmail: ****** Closing date: Monday, January 27, 2025
