General DescriptionThe Application Specialist is responsible for providing technical expertise in business applications area which requires a working knowledge of the technical infrastructure and software underpinning the applications. Plans, consults, and coordinates complex project assignments in the design, development, procurement, and implementation of applications software. Provides technical expertise working as part of operations or project teams to implement complex technical solutions that meet business requirements. Responsible for contributing to the planning of the work programs and the review, development, and modification of best practices and technical solutions. Responsible for maintenance, administration, user support, and supervision of end user support effort by contracted personnel.Duties and Responsibilities Undertakes project management role as and when required for business applications sourcing and deployments.Assists in defining solution acceptance criteria and signing off of project closure documents from vendors.Conducts business analysis, determines, and implements a course of action, set priorities for contribution to budgeting processes.Works with contracted IT Architects (both data and systems architects) to determine and review IT architecture blueprints.Ensures that application deployments follow the company's IT architecture blueprints when working with vendors or internal teams.Develops and modifies interfaces for existing applications and systems while maintaining the integrity of data andDevelop new application software specifications that encompass functional, programming, and system process flows.Write programs using various programming and scripting languages.Executes Business Intelligence strategies to produce meaningful business reports using modern BI tools.Works with and understands complex data models and databases for the most effective and efficient organization of data based on processing requirements.Contributes to the review, development, and modification of best practices and technicalCommunicates operational issues, and system status to project leads and managers.Performs load and stress testing to anticipate the impact of application usage on the production service Complete calculations used to estimate various capacity requirements such as database size, RAM and processing speed.Responsible for Availability, Capacity, Problem, Incident, Security and Business Continuity management processes in applications landscape.Undertakes a leading role when troubleshooting applications problems with vendors. Ensures that a workaround is determined for known issues.Performs ERP administrator role in liaison with the ERP vendor.Responsible for 2nd and 3rd Line user support on ERP and other applications.Works closely with applications as a service provider to ensure good user experience. Manages escalations to the vendors for positive results.Develops user manuals and applications support procedures where required.Maintains the entire company software library and licenses up to date. Initiating renewal process with both vendors and key users.Searches and gathers information from a variety of sources including computer applications vendors, internet, and legislative documentation and consolidate relevant information to complete cyber security requirements/standards.Approves application updates and patches through IT Change management process to minimize business impact due to unauthorized patching or updates activities.Delivers on business reporting, management information and business intelligence requests, tasks.Develops business cases, provides time and cost estimates for applications projectWork cooperatively with others to effectively determine information and understand business requirements of a complex nature.Supervises onsite IT end user technicians when handling application issues.Minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.Certification in modern programming language and BI tools advantageous.ITIL V3 Foundation or Latest Certification will be Advantageous.Over 3 years of Applications Development and Administration within the IT Industry.Microsoft SharePoint administration and deployment experienceProject Management experienceRelational SQL Database administration ExperienceBusiness Intelligence and Reporting Skills e.g Power BIExperience in Business Analysis activitiesExperience with Software Coding LanguagesBehavioral competencies:Proactive in defining tasks and driving them to completion.Conflict managementProblem TroubleshootingConsensus buildingAccurate and detail orientated.Ability to work well independently.Team playerStakeholder Management SkillsStrong analytical focusGood interpersonal skillsExcellent communication skillsAbility to meet deadlines and handle pressure.Customer Service focused.
