DescriptionThe Investec Client Operations department manages the activities of satisfying the regulatory requirements around anti-money laundering and counter terrorist financing.
Using the Bank's risk-based approach, the department seeks to protect the Bank, our clients and the economy through effective pro-active monitoring, identification and reporting controls.The department consists of a number of aligned and inter-disciplinary functions including; Client Onboarding ("KYC"), Enhanced Due Diligence, Transaction Monitoring, Client Maintenance, Quality Assurance and Re-identification.
Responsibilities:As a member of the Investec Client Operations Suspicious Activity Monitoring (Transaction) Team, key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Investigate and assess system generated alerts to determine whether activity is potentially suspicious and should be reported, including:o Implementing the financial crime Transaction Monitoring procedures,o Sourcing and gathering of client and transaction information,o Profiling of client and related parties,o Analysis of the client and transactional data to determine whether activity is consistent with client profile or is unusual / suspicious.o Where necessary, engaging with Bankers/Stakeholders to gain an understanding of a client's profile, activity and transactional trends.o Make a decision with regards to the transaction and either sign-off as not suspicious or log a suspicious transaction report (STR).o Escalation to Financial Crime Compliance and senior leadership where required.Timeously log suspicious activity reports, in accordance with internal reporting processes and regulatory SLA's.Conduct ad-hoc manual monitoring activities where required, analysis of cross-border transactions to high-risk jurisdictions.Utilize Investec product host systems to generate transactional reports to identify transactional trends of clients.Assess the risk associated with exposure to clients who are involved in money laundering and other suspicious transactions or activities.Work closely with the Client Due Diligence (CDD) team and provide transaction monitoring support to the CDD team where required.Assist in identifying trends and patterns to improve effectiveness of suspicious activity monitoring.Maintain a current understanding of money laundering and terrorist financing issues, including policies, procedures, regulations, industry best practice and developing trends.Assist with money laundering related queries, requests and enforcements orders received from regulatory bodies, Section 27, 32 and 34 requests from the FICAssist with money laundering related queries received from Correspondent Banks.Provide support to continuous improvement of operational processes.Provide support to system tuning and processes.Communicate cases effectively and efficiently to all relevant stakeholders.Transactional reviews are conducted timeously and to the required standard.Legal and compliance regulations are fulfilled.SAR/STR's are articulated clearly, accurately and timeously to meet regulatory and operational requirements and timelines Experience, skill and capability A proactive risk-based mind-set that takes ownership, demonstrates initiative and accepts accountability for work Degree in legal, finance, forensic accounting, criminology or business subjectsExperience of KYC, Enhanced Due Diligence processes and Transaction Monitoring/InvestigationStrong analytical and research skillsFinancial crime and banking experience requiredKnowledge and understanding of business risk and compliance regulationsKnowledge of Investec (target market, business, products and services) (advantageous)Able to analyze and interpret information across multiple complex data sets to form a holistic viewReport/investigation writingThe individual must be prepared to work extended hours when necessaryVery high regard for confidentialityAssertive with strong interpersonal skillsHighly organised and able to prioritiseSelf-motivated team player Investec Culture At Investec we look for intelligent, energetic people filled with passion, integrity and curiosity.
