HSE Officer: ENGIE Kathu Operations (Internal/External) Main Responsibilities include: Carrying out regular inspections on construction sites, workshops and offices to verify that legislative, best safety practices, company policies and procedures are being properly implemented and adhered to.Assist with interpretation of the OHS Act and related legislation.Maintaining high housekeeping standards at the facility.Understands and adheres to all Plant Safety Guidelines and Procedures to strive to maintain an injury-free environment.Carrying out risk assessments facilitation and guidance, with the aim of risk elimination/mitigation via implementation and monitoring of controls.Review hazardous chemical information and controls with the aim of improving personnel safety by recommending improvements and controls, and where necessary prescribing required amendments.Facilitate the Investigation and reporting of the root causes of accidents and incidents and where appropriate identify and instigate any corrective actions or control measures.Devise and Implement safety awareness campaigns.Distributes HSE bulletins and updates HSE communication boards.Assists with organizing safety meetings, toolbox talks and Departmental Committees.Preparing health and safety strategies and developing internal policy.Manage the records of inspection findings and producing reports containing corrective action plans with agreed upon improvements taken and closed out.Recording of incidents and accidents and producing statistics for managers.Being up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety legislation and any developments that affect the company's operations.Ensuring the safe installation of equipment.Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.Liaison with main contractors and sub-contractors regarding safety requirements and systems.Understands and masters the Plant Emergency Response Procedures.Assists line management with the implementation of new or existing SHEQ-related legislation, rules and Company standards to include fire prevention, health and safety awareness training, site inspections of plant and any contractors.Verify that all SHEQ incidents are investigated within stipulated periods and the close-out actions are completed by agreed upon deadlines.Action weekly and monthly reporting, enter information into the Company Management Information System.Coordinates environmental performance for plant as per environmental impact assessment.Perform self and contractor audits at scheduled frequencies.Manage audit outcome corrective action plans and close-outs.Qualifications: A formal Accredited certificate at NQF level 5 or equivalent in Health and Safety management such as SAMTRAC or Nebosh.Or
National Diploma in Safety Management.Driver's License.Experience: At least 3-4 years HSE experience in a similar role in a large power generation plant: solar, oil & gas or petrochemical.Compilation of SHEQ reports in the required standard.Implementation of relevant SHEQ legislation, policies and procedures.Knowledge of Industrial Process in Occupational Hygiene and Safety.Knowledge of Occupational Hygiene and Safety Impact Assessments.Knowledge of Environmental Management & Impact Assessments.ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001.Skills: Ability to transfer skills and mentor staff.Drive to achieve results through himself and others.Ability to build and work with multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary staff.Ability to work together with the other departments in order to achieve the best result for the company.Take ownership.Maintains high ethics standard.Motivation and leadership of team and individual team members.Respects the others as well as the cultural diversity.Seek, organize and exchange information for decision making and problem solving.Ability to create a climate of open communication on personal and professional issues.Ability to work autonomously, prioritizing tasks and activities in line with business objectives.Quality and environmental awareness and managing according to quality standards and procedures.Innovation, vision, creativity, taking initiative, problem solving and decision making.A pro-active approach to planning and decision making.Ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders.Language: English Language: excellent communication skills both written and verbal.IT: Computer literate: must have a high degree of skill in Business Computing Applications such as Databases, Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Enterprise Resource Planning applications (Maximo/SAP or equivalent).Remuneration: The compensation will be market related.Additional Information: Incomplete CV's and/or applications will not be considered.
