Our manufacturing client is urgently seeking a dynamic hands-on Group HR Manager for their head office in Durban. The role will oversee and direct the following areas: payroll and time-and-attendance processes; training and development; recruitment; discipline; employment relations management; performance management; reporting; and managing HR policies and procedures. Ensuring compliance with labor laws and statutory submissions is also a key responsibility.
Reporting StructureThe Group HR Manager will have the following direct reports:
Group HR AdministratorGroup Training OfficerDuties & ResponsibilitiesOversee and manage payroll and time-and-attendance processes (weekly, monthly, and annually)Ensure compliance with applicable laws and payroll tax obligationsAccurately and promptly process payroll information for new, terminated, and amended employeesAuthorize and submit payroll information for timely staff paymentsCompile, capture, and submit statutory requirements (COIDA, ROE, EEA, WSP/ATR, EMP501, BEE, Stats SA, UIF declarations) on timeReport on overtime, earnings, absenteeism, leave balances, engagements, and terminationsSubmit month-end reports to the Finance ManagerLiaise with auditors and SARS for payroll tax auditsPrepare reports for weekly, quarterly, and yearly reviews (increases, bonuses)Training & DevelopmentIdentify training needs and gaps in consultation with Line Managers and the Group Training OfficerEnsure timely submission of WSP/ATRMonitor training programs and interventions according to skills development objectives (apprenticeship programs, discretionary grant projects)Ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements (Health & Safety, Competence evaluation)RecruitmentManage the recruitment process to fill vacanciesEnsure proper authorization of motivationsAdvertise vacancies (internally, externally, outsource)Screen CVs and schedule interviewsArrange psychometric/polygraph tests if requiredConduct reference checks and draft employment contractsManage onboarding documentation and processesReview and amend employment contracts and terms & conditions as necessaryCapture new employee details on payrollConduct/arrange induction trainingCoordinate with IT for necessary setup (computer, email, required programs)Termination of EmploymentManage the termination process and documentation (retirement, dismissal, resignation)Process termination information on payroll and issue appropriate documentationFacilitate withdrawal applications and transfer of membership/fundsManage and maintain discipline, employee behavior, and grievancesAdvise management and staff on labor relations issuesPromote transparency and fairness in the workplaceEnsure awareness of labor laws (LRA, BCEA, Employment Act)Investigate complaints and initiate appropriate actionsRepresent the company at CCMAMonitor absenteeism, excessive out-of-factory time, and latenessEmployment EquityCompile and submit Employment Equity reports and plansFormulate an integrated employment equity resourcing planProvide feedback on performance and progress in implementing EE plansHold quarterly employment equity meetingsGeneralMaintain physical files for employees and related recordsAnalyze anomalies and address problemsReview and amend policies and procedures as neededStay updated on market trends in HR policy and practicesMaintain contact with factory-floor officials to promote sound relationsAbilitiesLead and manage a departmentAttention to detail and analytical skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks with precision and organizationAccurate and timely information captureSkills / ExperienceExperience managing peopleExperience in a manufacturing environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skills in EnglishProblem-solving skills and resourceful thinkingStrong empathy and interpersonal skillsProficient in Excel, Word, and payroll software (ACCSYS Peopleware is an advantage)Location: City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, GP
