Tzaneen Area Limpopo & or Gauteng – South Africa:Our client is looking for a Head of Processing Africa to join the team.
The successful candidate will ensure that all value-add facilities related activities are undertaken within the accepted norms and procedures in order to ensure long-term sustainability of the business.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSDegree in Engineering or Operations Management or other relevant fieldsPost graduate qualification will be advantageousFruit processing and packing experience is desirableAt least 10-15 years' experience in factories and prepacking facilities, preferably agricultureAt least 5 years' experience in 16.
(2) role or similar roles on Health and Safety.KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIREDTechnically competent to manage an export subtropical fruit businessGood people management skills across all levels of the businessDetailed knowledge of external accreditation requirements for local and export marketsFinancial planning and controlKnowledge of the legal framework for farming operations across AfricaHigh levels of computer literacyBEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES REQUIREDIntegrity, passion for work, excellence and successExcellent communicator with attention to detailBusiness acumen with analytical problem-solving abilityResults driven team playerAbility to work under constant pressureSelf-starter and ability to work independently and as part of a teamKEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:Factories and Prepacking Facilities Growth Strategy Development:Factories and Prepacking facilities productivity improvementEstablishment of central admin function for all Factories and Prepacking facilitiesDevelopment and implementation of Five (5) year growth and expansion strategy / planTechnical Evaluation of all Factories & Prepacking facilities and implement same standards acrossCollaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build company image and positive reputationConducting industry benchmarks on cost, technology, and people trendsFinancial & Business Management:Collaborate and participate in setting-up budgets, monitor, allocate resources, review and make mid-year adjustmentsPrepare monthly and/or project finance report for management to provide insight into the companyContribute to the business profitability by managing people and resources to establish and accomplish business objectivesPeople Management:Instil discipline within the management and labour forceSetting performance agreements, managing subordinates, coaching, and mentoring the teamDeveloping successors for critical positionsCreate a healthy labour relations environment through continuous employee engagementHealth & Safety:Accept and execute 16(2) and GMR2(1) Role and ResponsibilitiesManagement and implementation of HSMSDrive Hazard identification and development of Risk Assessments for all operationsSupport and achieve and maintain ISO45001 Accreditation in South African Production UnitsCapital Projects:Engagement with internal operations managers for requirementsTechnical Review and Approval of capital projects (Capex Requests)Setup Budget, Capex request and execute project timeously and within budgetOversee management of the design process by both internal and external engineersContinuous Improvement:Constant performance evaluation of packing practices/activitiesDevelop and implement process flows for all activitiesProfit enhancement project – 2% gross profit improvementMeasuring water usage and reporting for both management and compliance purposesSecure at least two growers and increase volume by 5% year on yearWork with newly established Continuous Improvement DepartmentCorporate Governance, Risk and Compliance:Ensure that statutory obligations under the auspices of Factories & Prepacking facilities management are prepared and maintainedEnforce ethical business practices, and exercise oversight to ensure compliance with corporate governance, ethical and responsible behaviour as per the policiesCreate an inclusive cultureOperational Activities:Develop and implement data management system and reporting for all Factories & Prepacking facilitiesDevelop and implement maintenance strategy and performance of all equipmentStandardise all Factories & Prepacking facilities across the continentWarehouse management and stock controlAccreditation Management:Ensure compliance for all relevant accreditations, including legal aspects regarding fire, water and food safety, and Health & Safety regulationsManage the audit process, from booking audits to internal audits and overseeing the audit itselfCo-ordinate any audit-related activities which may come up during the yearONLY short-listed candidates will be contacted
