KEY RESULT AREA
1. Delivering on the EPPF Strategic Communication Agenda – internal and external

Translate the EPPF strategic plans into viable brand and communication campaigns, tools and materials which are tailored to specific member segments and seek to maximise member experience and touchpoints
Develop strategic communications and brand management capability across EPPF (IMU, RFO specifically Member experience), providing strategic advice on strategy to enhance the brand, member experience and investor confidence based on deep member and client insights and data
Act as a custodian of the EPPF brand to strengthen the reputation of the fund mitigate reputational risk, developing and implementing appropriate media, public relations and communication actions
Act as the first point of contact for EPPF with regard to external communications such as providing support with media/conference presentations
Track and review media and legal coverage for EPPF and report regularly to the senior management

2. Plan the marketing and communications content for specific areas and for different audiences – members, clients, investors

Develop a web strategy covering EPPFs websites processes to keep the websites up to date.
Leverage technology and modern communication methods i.e. websites and social media channels to drive a successful channel communications.
Build capability and provide partnering advice to business areas across the Fund, particularly Member Experience, IMU and the Human Capital Function which have significant impact on brand reputation with key stakeholders
Support new business development targeting and client pitches as and where required
Source and quality control external support from agencies and partners where required
Develop internal publications such as newsletters, releases, email announcements, planned publications, on-line, intranet, special projects and assignments
Ensure the EPPF brand meets expectations through monitoring marketing trends and fund feedback

3. Media relations and external communications management

Lead the formulation and implementation of an integrated external communication and public relations strategy, in collaboration with key internal stakeholders.
Develop and implement crisis communication strategy and the management thereof.
Oversee communication campaigns for the Fund, drive measurable results, providing reported feedback to Board on positive impact created through communication initiatives with the EPPF's stakeholders.
Review and update the EPPF Communication Policy to drive continuity and consistency in the organisation's communication.

4. Drive high standards, efficiency and continuous improvement in the Brand and Communication function and practices of the Fund

Establish EPPF corporate identity branding guidelines, policy and protocols and governance standards and operational protocols for the sign-off on all Fund communications to ensure that quality is maintained and brand managed.
Ensure understanding and adherence to communication requirements that are set out by the Pension Fund's Act and the Financial Services Board's circulars.
Keep abreast with changes and trends in marketing, communication and brand management, integrating and adapting to best practice where appropriate
Manage the external surveys and CRM insights that evaluate the attitudes, opinions and changing needs/perspectives aspirations of the stakeholders and fund members.
Compile comprehensive business reports for this function, highlighting successes and risks in terms of achieving the section's objectives.

5. Governance, compliance and reporting

Embed the communication requirements that are set out by the Pension Fund's Act and the Financial Services Board's circulars on minimum communication requirements for pension funds.
Commit to regular update meetings with the Board to give feedback on compliance
Oversee the maintenance of the Communication function's institutional memory.

6. Stakeholder Management

Builds a trusted advisor relationship with the Board, Leadership Team and relevant Committees, ensuring they are proactively and effectively advised on strategic communication and brand management matters, risks and issues
Pro-actively develop and maintain a wide-range of external contacts in order to obtain/exchange information, identify environmental change which may impact on the business, establish best practices subsequently taking appropriate actions to maintain/enhance competitive advantage.

7. People Leadership

Manage planning of resource requirements, ensure sufficient capable resources are in place to meet service delivery demands, maintaining the effective and efficient capability of the department.
Build a high performing team where the best people are deployed in the right roles and deliver against strategy.
Ensure that all employees are motivated, developed.
Manage employees' performance and ensure that their individual and collective performance is of the required standard.
Implement and maintain an effective system of internal controls and delegations of authority for the department, to ensure that accountability for decisions made.
Inspires, aligns and engages employees around the vision and strategy of the Fund, maximising employee engagement and willingness to invest discretionary effort

8. Annual Budgets / Financial Management

Manage the Marketing & Communications budget and ensure programme milestones related to marketing & communications are achieved on time and within budget.
Compile and gain budget approval (with support of the Board of trustees) in line with policy guidelines.
Manage costs against guidelines, and ensure alignment of expenditure with the budget.




TECHNICAL COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

Good understanding of the South African media landscape
In depth knowledge of brand management, public relations, marketing and integrated communication strategies (internal and external) using traditional and digital media channels
Demonstrated ability to promote company brand and enhance advocacy, developing marketing, brand promotion and communication activities which build brand confidence and contribute to the member/ customer experience
In depth knowledge of CRM and big data analysis
Insight into CRM and customer centricity principles
Familiarity with Pension Fund industry and trends
Insight into technical communication requirements
Reputation and crisis management skills
Project management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/TRAINING

Honours Degrees and Professional qualifications in the field of public relations, communication, marketing, journalism or related discipline.

REQUIRED MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

At least 10 years job-related experience, which should include at least 3 years' experience in a strategic leadership role.
Significant experience in working with various communication tools and channels, data analytics, branding, visual communication software and public relations
Successful track record of managing new media and digital channels, including website development
Demonstrated ability to manage reputational risk
Solid professional experience required in producing digital content and written communications for targeted audiences
