Head Chef
for a charming Wine Bar in Cape Town. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced chef to lead a small, dynamic kitchen team in a fast-paced, reservation-only dinner service environment. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, leadership, and a passion for high-end culinary creations, working closely with a talented Sous Chef and a team of 6 chefs.
Position Overview:
As
Head Chef
, you will be responsible for the overall management of the kitchen, menu development, staff supervision, and ensuring the highest standards of food quality and presentation. You will work alongside a dedicated Sous Chef and a team of chefs to create exceptional dining experiences for guests. This is a hands-on, fast-paced environment where creativity and leadership are key to success.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the kitchen team, ensuring smooth and efficient operations during service.
Develop and innovate the menu, incorporating seasonal ingredients and contemporary culinary trends.
Ensure consistency in the quality of food served, maintaining high standards of presentation and taste.
Oversee food preparation and plating to meet service expectations.
Manage kitchen inventory, stock ordering, and supplier relationships.
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and health and safety standards in the kitchen.
Ensure that all kitchen staff adhere to operational procedures and standards.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, mentoring and developing junior staff.
Handle guest feedback and special requests with professionalism and creativity.
Requirements:
Strong background in fine dining and top-tier restaurant kitchens (HOTEL/LODGE experience is not preferred).
Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in fast-paced, high-quality kitchens.
Creative with a strong focus on menu development and innovation.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse kitchen team.
Strong personality and ability to handle the pressure of a busy, reservation-only dinner service.
Experience working alongside big-name chefs is highly preferred.
Must be adaptable, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and managing kitchen operations.
Available to work 55-60 hours per week, Monday to Saturday (closed on Sundays).
