Group Legal Manager

We are looking for dedicated and experienced  Group Legal Manager to join and manage our dynamic team based in Johannesburg North .

BALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY Identify and assess level of baseline risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
Manage SHEQ compliance within the Function through effective use of the Toolbox Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status PEOPLE  Manage the Function:  Ensure an enabling climate/culture Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover Labour complement in line with budget  Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Function Manage performance against set targets and competencies Ensure IDP's are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly) Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels Conduct recruitment interviews CUSTOMERS   Ensure Customer Satisfaction BUSINESS PROCESSES  Establishing, developing and directing the vision and strategic objectives for the legal function, which include the alignment of operations, organizational structure, people, processes and technology to the business strategy Approving policies and standards regulating key aspects of the legal functions by ensuring that processes are applied to monitor performance against policies and standards.
Supporting the implementation of decisions taken by the Executive Committee Accepting responsibility for driving the legal function to meeting targets for the business Taking initiative to drive execution of the duties of Group Legal  Functionally reporting to the Executive for Group Legal and Compliance Determining the internal management framework and establishing a measurement process for functions managed.
Reporting on performance at various executive forums.
Managing control of operations and critical review of the performance of functions managed Develop strategies and processes to improve on an ongoing basis.
Ensuring alignment with core business of Samancor.
Ensuring that the organisation adheres to the applicable laws and regulations.
Ensuring that organisational legal matters are managed properly, efficiently and that the relevant and respective interested parties are informed and given proper advice and guidance Overseeing delivery of legal services and resources to accomplish corporate goals, strategies and priorities.
Initiating strategies for driving profession and customer centric behaviours in the business Management of key Joint Ventures, Corporate Secretarial Matters and Group Compliance Engaging with other strategic functions to contribute toward the creation of step change in the performance of the organisation.
Developing relationships with key clients at Executive and other levels to maintain best practices Managing communication of the overall group legal, compliance and company secretarial function strategy and direction throughout the organisation to enhance implementation.
Championing initiatives to attract, coach and retain key talent to build high performance culture within the team Directing operations to ensure that policies and procedures are being applied uniformly; that goals, objective and performance standards are met.
Ensuring compliance with sound corporate governance principles and related mining sector legislation Establishing performance contracts with direct reports, monitor performance and provide feedback.
