About the Position:
GPTech is seeking a Medical Gas Systems Inspector to support a short-term contracting opportunity in Lesotho. The Medical Gas Systems Inspector will be responsible for conducting onsite inspections of liquid oxygen tank-supplied medical gas systems, ensuring their proper installation, design compliance, and safe operation across health centers in Lesotho. The inspector will ensure that all systems meet international codes and standards (such as NFPA 99 and ISO 7396-1) and provide crucial recommendations to optimize safety and operational efficiency. This individual will play a vital role in mitigating construction and operational risks, guiding the integration of liquid oxygen tanks into healthcare systems, and training local personnel on installation and maintenance best practices.
This position will be 100% remote with travel to various health centers throughout Lesotho.
Responsibilities:
Design Review and Compliance:
Inspect liquid oxygen tank systems and verify adherence to international standards (NFPA 99, ISO 7396-1).Review designs for liquid oxygen storage and distribution systems.Ensure that design specifications align with the unique requirements of health centers in Lesotho.Provide actionable recommendations for design enhancements based on field observations.
Liquid Oxygen Tank Installation and Integration:Monitor the correct installation of liquid oxygen tanks and their seamless integration into medical gas systems.Assess safety measures associated with cryogenic storage and ensure adherence to protocols.Review and confirm the technical compatibility of liquid oxygen tanks with the overall healthcare infrastructure.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:Identify construction and operational risks related to medical gas systems.Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks and ensure their effective implementation during installation and commissioning.Conduct thorough safety assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols.
Technical Support and Issue Resolution:Provide technical advice to construction teams and resolve any issues that arise during system installation and commissioning.Ensure all installations are performed correctly and safely, following design specifications and regulatory requirements.Assist in troubleshooting problems during project execution, ensuring that installations are performed correctly and safely.
Training and Capacity-Building:Develop training materials and deliver educational sessions for local inspectors and maintenance staff on the safe installation and maintenance of medical gas systems.Provide ongoing support to enhance the capacity of local teams to manage and maintain medical gas systems independently. Qualifications:A minimum of a two-year diploma or degree in a relevant field from an accredited institutionProfessional certification in medical gas systems, particularly NFPA 99, preferredAt least 5 years of field experience inspecting medical gas systems, including liquid oxygen tank installationsDemonstrated experience in quality assurance and compliance with international standardsExperience working with healthcare systems, ideally in developing countries, highly preferredKnowledge of liquid oxygen tank design and integration with medical gas systemsFamiliarity with international standards such as NFPA 99 and ISO 7396-1 and other relevant codes used in southern AfricaStrong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independentlyProficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and engineering specificationsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a capacity to train and collaborate with local teamsProficient in relevant software (e.g., CAD, BIM) and Microsoft Office SuiteAbility and willingness to travel extensively to remote regions within Lesotho, working independently across various health centers
