Details of the offer

Reporting: Senior Product Developer
Location: Westlake
Purpose:
Design and execution of trend forward and functional design & publishing to grow Cape Herb & Spice business internationally. The scope covers design solutions across gifting, tea and spice and covers the full artwork design and execution process.
Key Responsibilities:

Spearhead & support design innovation across Gifting & Spice. Brand guardian to ensure design stays on brand.

Key Functional Areas:

Marketing material design
Printed packaging DTP
Printed packaging concept & design

Design:

Conceptualise new printed packaging design solutions for spice, tea and gifting lines
Study design briefs and determine requirements
Conceptualize visuals based on requirements
Develop illustrations, logos and other designs using software or by hand
Use the appropriate colours and layouts for each graphic
Offer new ideas and concepts clearly and effectively
Schedule projects and define budget constraints
Prepare rough drafts and present ideas
Create top quality mock ups and renders
DTP: Apply design to project briefs:
Work with copywriters & creative director to produce final design
Test graphics across various media
Amend designs after feedback
Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand
Keep record of artwork changes and file print proofs: For CHS artwork and Private Label: shared responsibility with project manager & product developer
Organise and file all correspondence with regards to artwork
Creating print ready files of owned CHS & Private Label projects to send to printers.
Shared responsibility to ensure that all relevant people in the company are informed when there is a change to existing artwork or when new artwork will be coming in (with Food Tech and Product Developer / Project Manager)

Print process management:

Manage print related tasks (ensuring colour standards are met and upheld, signing off of proofs and attending a print pass if necessary) – this extends only to artwork, material, finish, colour.

Sales & marketing support:

Product photography and deep etching for presentations
Marketing material design

Education and Required Knowledge:

Degree or diploma in Graphic Design. Preferably from AAA, Vega or Red and Yellow.
Specialisation or focus on packaging design
Minimum 1-2 years relevant experience
Understanding of packaging die lines and being able to envision flat artwork in 3D form
A good understanding of the print and production process
Strong computer skills in Mac using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
Good DSLR photography skills
Strong technical knowledge base essential

An affinity for flourishing under pressure and decoding cryptic briefs
Reliable & Flexible - maintains effectiveness in fast moving and/changing environment and with varying task and responsibilities
Great problem-solving skills
