Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
Typically, 70%-80% of time spent in laboratory, following the instructions and guidance of senior lab members.
Ability to have effective communication with lab manager, lab engineers and project teams.
Developing ability to identify safety hazards and report OH&S incidents. Aware of WSPS approach to risk management, ethics and safety. Commitment to all associated WSP HSE Lab policies and procedures.
Having basic soil mechanics knowledge, developing experience in sample preparation techniques and laboratory analysis of soil and tailings material in accordance with standards and procedure.
Contributing to projects with a focus on data collection, data processing and providing inputs for technical reports.
Ability to understand laboratory test requests and all laboratory sample registration protocols.
Develop experience in equipment checks and maintenance.
Commitment to best laboratory practices and good housekeeping and tidiness essential.
Deliver best client outcomes/options which have saved the client costs/time.
Developing client relationship skills.
Traveling to undertake mine site-based geotechnical activities under supervision of senior engineers.
Priority on developing technical skills under direction.
Work with and provide support to members of the team as required.
Aware of WSP's organisational capability.
Aware of relevant systems, procedures and practices.
Developing experience in a consultancy environment and understanding of what a good consultant is.
Developing skills in technical report writing.
Developing awareness of applicable legislation, standards, guidelines, and project specifications.
Developing experience in managing own tasks to meet deadlines.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (Civil Engineering) or Equivalent.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Relevant internal and external SHEQ training including, First Aid, Construction general safety induction, etc.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Time management skills, organizational skills, independent thinking skills, problem-solving and good attention to details.
Well-developed interpersonal skills.
Ability to work efficiently autonomously and in a team environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
Reliable and committed to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to schedule and coordinate multiple tasks and assignments.
