Reviews legal documentation and provides advice on appropriate action. Coordinates legal matters requiring external legal assistance. May provide work leadership and mentoring to less experienced attorneys. May also participate in corporate affairs, corporate governance and legal watch.Key ResponsibilitiesLegalOverseeing the Corporate Legal Manager in the provision of proactive and in-depth legal advice to the various MiWay business units.Act as internal counsel on complex legal matters and projects involving the MiWay Group and to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory standards.Keep senior management informed of legal developments impacting the general insurance industry that will potentially affect business.Provide commercial legal support to the business relating to corporate actions, working with the internal Finance team.Manage the relationships with external legal service providers including overseeing legal matters requiring external legal assistance.Provide guidance to various stakeholders in MiWay on the interpretation of legislation.Overseeing the Compliance and Enterprise Risk Manager in the identification, assessment and mitigation of MiWay compliance obligations and risks.To provide the MiWay leaders with strategic legal advice in respect of legal risks facing the Group and providing strategic solutions to successfully address these risks.ComplianceBuild strong working relationship with key external stakeholders such as regulators, industry associations, Ombudsman, legislative authorities etc.Development and implementation of policies, procedures and controls to meet ethical, legal, regulatory, internal policy and industry codes requirements across the Group.Monitoring adherence to the Group Compliance Principles and Standards.Overseeing the reporting to the MiWay Executive Management and the Board compliance status and incidence of non-compliance on a quarterly basis.Act as the liaison between the entity and the regulators.GeneralTo lead and manage the corporate legal, risk and compliance teams to effectively manage the MiWay legal and regulatory risk within a rapidly changing and challenging environment.Qualification• LLB (Admitted Attorney advantageous)ExperienceMinimum 5 years' post qualification experience in the financial services industry.Meeting the competence and experience requirements to be registered as a Compliance Officer with the applicable regulators.Business and management practices and business ethics.What will make you successful in this role?Knowledge and working understanding of the following:Governance and Operational Standards required by the Prudential Authority in terms of operating an insurance business.POPIA and PAIA acts.Legal & regulatory framework in SA.Insurance Act of SA.FAIS Act.COFI Bill.SkillsExcellent communication and administration skills.Excellent command of the English language (written and verbal).Business acumen.Analytical thinking.Decision making.Planning and organising skills.Relationship building/networking.Knowledge and SkillsCompliance and legal projects management.Legal advice and documentation reviews.Coordinates legal action that may require external legal assistance.Utilises negotiation and communication skills and related, risk, financial and legal expertise in the management of the client relationships.Personal AttributesBusiness insight - Contributing through others.Builds networks - Contributing through others.Manages complexity - Contributing through others.Persuades - Contributing through others.Core CompetenciesBeing resilient - Contributing through others.Collaborates - Contributing through others.Cultivates innovation - Contributing through others.Customer focus - Contributing through others.Drives results - Contributing through others.Turnaround timeThe shortlisting process will only start once the application due date has been reached.
