The successful incumbent must be self-motivated, dynamic and results-driven. Moreover, they must be an experienced leader to lead and manage all relevant business activities and to implement effective strategies for business growth. The main purpose of the role will be:Assuming responsibility for the overall strategic development of the business, operations and financial performance of the business unitEnsuring the required profitable results are aligned with the invested asset base, Demarcation Exemption and FSP LicencesAssuming overall accountability to each budgeted targetSpecific job responsibilities will include:Develop a business plan covering sales, revenue and expense controls, meeting agreed targets and promoting the organisation's presence throughout South Africa and selected geographies outside of SAEstablish, manage, and maintain strategic relationships in all areas of the businessEnsure the strategic identification, evaluation and commitment of new product development opportunities that support our strategy through market and industry researchEnsure sustainable sales through effective functioning sales and marketing resourcingFacilitate senior management briefings on business development opportunitiesPlan and implement a specific appraisal system that describes the responsibilities and performance standards for each of the key management roles in the business, set individual targets and monitor their performanceTake a lead in market development and growth initiatives i.e. product integration and innovation, channel-specific agreements, and ongoing engagements with distribution services and intermediariesEnsure that high standards of ongoing training are provided for all staff so that they possess sufficient technical knowledge to represent the company's products in an accurate and balanced mannerAssume overall responsibility for developing the annual business strategy and operational plan for the organisationParticipate with industry ensuring that the company has a high level of professional standing and influence on key mattersEnsure compliance requirements are met and maintained with the Council of Medical Schemes, Prudential Authority, Financial Sector Conduct Authority etc.Manage key stakeholder relationships with the insurance underwriters, service providers, brand and distribution partnersAssist the Corporate Solutions Cluster and Group to reach their strategic objectivesEnsure solid governanceBuild strong relationships across industry, from regulators, industry bodies, service providers, distribution channels intermediaries, retail and corporate clients, etc.Ensure progressive financial performance (Turnover should deliver the required margins to ensure sustainability and should be substantial enough to ensure growth of the company)REQUIREMENTS / CRITERIAPostgraduate Degree in Finance or business / commercial related (a Masters will be advantageous)15 years of relevant experience with at least 5 years' experience leading a BU EXCOSolid commercial experience including managing the entire profit and loss account (P&L) of a businessStrong understanding of health insurance, its regulatory and legislative landscape, business and commercial strategies as well as marketing knowledge, including sales and marketingBusiness knowledge, budgeting, strategic planning, creativity in problem solvingExperience of leading cross-functional teams
