South Africa is part of the META (Middle East, Turkey, and Africa) region, where Finance is a critical function within the cluster commercial operations. Reporting to the South Africa Finance Controller, the Specialist for General Accounting will have end-to-end responsibility for the US GAAP and local GAAP results of the respective legal entity. This includes all accounting, indirect tax, treasury, and internal control-related matters performed locally or through partner teams (e.g., GDO). This role requires collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders. The finance team has an agile structure, allowing flexible team settings depending on tasks and creating development opportunities.
Responsibilities
Responsible for accurate and compliant results in the South Africa legal entities for US GAAP and local Accounting & Tax standards.
Collaborate with AtR, OtC, and StS teams in GDO to ensure objectives achievement, continuity of processes, and succession planning.
Ensure compliance with global and local statutory accounting policies.
Prepare and review journal entries.
Establish & manage actual cost accounting.
Monitor legislation changes and ensure timely implementation of required changes in SAP and accounting processes.
Prepare and close books on a monthly basis.
Support Senior Specialist AT&C with external audit requirements.
Comply with monthly VAT submissions, payments, verifications, audits; filing of objections and appeals related to VAT.
Ensure appropriate archiving of all hard copy documents, including reporting forms, to ensure compliance with local legislation.
Interface with OtC teams managing impacts on financial books (sales reconciliation to 3PL, and AR monitoring).
Perform and review Balance Sheet Reconciliation.
Ongoing process optimization and support of new system implementations.
Manage Fixed Assets Accounting (GAAP, Statutory & Tax), Direct/Indirect Asset Capitalization, Value & Track of Fixed Assets, Perform Asset Disposals, and Obligatory physical inventory counting & tagging.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in Finance/Accounting.
Good level of MS Office applications usage and experience of SAP (key user).
Understanding of business issues, including foreign currency impacts.
Strong communication, organization, and managerial skills.
Team player, self-disciplined, analytic and result-oriented, attentive to deadlines.
Strong oral & written communication skills (English).
