South Africa is part of the META (Middle East, Turkey, and Africa), and Finance is a critical function within the cluster commercial operations. Reporting to the South Africa Finance Controller will be the Specialist for General Accounting, with the main responsibility for the South Africa entities/operations. In this role, he/she will have end-to-end responsibility for the US GAAP and local GAAP results of the respective legal entity (if applicable). This includes all accounting, indirect tax, treasury, and internal control-related matters performed locally or through partner teams (e.g., GDO). In line with the structure, this role will also need to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders. The finance team has an agile structure with all members of the team reporting directly to the Finance Controller. This enables flexible team settings depending on tasks, eases resource allocation, and creates development opportunities.
Responsibilities Responsible for accurate and compliant results in the South Africa legal entities for US GAAP, local Accounting & Tax standardsCollaborate with AtR, OtC, and StS teams in GDO to ensure objectives achievement, continuity of processes, and succession planningEnsure compliance with global and local statutory accounting policiesPrepare and review journal entriesEstablish & manage actual cost accountingMonitor legislation changes and ensure timely implementation of required changes in SAP and accounting processesPrepare and close books on a monthly basisSupport Senior Specialist AT&C with external audit requirementsComply with monthly VAT submissions, payments, verifications, audits; Filing of objections and appeals related to VATEnsure appropriate archiving of all hard copy documents including reporting forms to ensure compliance with local legislationInterface with OtC teams managing impacts on financial books (sales reconciliation to 3PL, and AR monitoring)Perform and Review Balance Sheet ReconciliationOngoing process optimization and support of new system implementationsFixed Assets Accounting (GAAP, Statutory & Tax), Direct/Indirect Asset Capitalization, Value & Track of Fixed Assets, Perform Asset Disposals, Obligatory physical inventory counting & tagging.Required Education, Experience, and Skills Bachelor's degree in AccountingA minimum of five years of experience in Finance/AccountingGood level of MS Office applications usage and experience of SAP (key user)Understanding of business issues, including foreign currency impactsStrong communication, organization, and managerial skillsTeam player, self-disciplined, analytic, and result-oriented, attentive to deadlinesStrong oral & written communication skills (English)Open-minded, pro-active, result-driven, and self-organizedAbility to take ownershipClient-oriented, conflict resolution/problem-solvingStrong analytical skillsComfortable in an environment of changing technologies and processes, demonstrating flexibility to new ways of workingOpen to work in flexible and flat (no hierarchy) teamsAbility to manage stakeholders in different locationsStrong interpersonal skills to work and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholdersWorks effectively under pressure & multitasking
