Fruit Buyer

Our client, a market leader in the exports sector is looking to hire a Fruit Buyer, based at their office in Tyger Valley, Cape TownThey are seeking a motivated and committed individual with a positive attitude who will consistently foster strong working relationships with fruit and vegetable suppliers.
This person will also be responsible for nurturing existing partnerships and identifying new and relevant suppliers as neededDuties and Responsibilities:Purchasing of deciduous and citrus fruit with more of a focus on the deciduous fruit and less on citrusDeveloping relationships with new and existing South African suppliers/ farmersPrice negotiations with growers and packhousesImplementation of seasonal programsQuality controlDealing with claims and negotiating the best settlement for our clientsReporting on the availability and range of the fruit (and vegetables) to our Business Development ManagersEducation and Experience:At least 5 years' experience in the procurement / buying fieldA successful track record in the fruit procurement fieldKnowledge and Skills:Extensive knowledge of local South African fruit (and vegetable) growers and packhousesExtensive knowledge of international fruit (and vegetable) growers and packhousesExperience in building relationships with growers and a successful track record of doing soExperience in negotiating and implementing systemsExtensive knowledge of fruit (and vegetables), their seasonality and quality standardsExperience in the exportation of Fruit (and vegetables) would be a plusGood computer and excel skills.
Have had previous experience in reporting and presentations
