Food Scientist / Product Specialist - Nelspruit

Position Purpose StatementThis role will report directly to the QA Manager. Responsible for the developmental processes of new product lines from market research until launch. Responsible for maintaining, improving and standardizing current product recipes and processes. This position will be responsible, but not limited to the following:
Researching new product and equipment opportunitiesDeveloping recipesConducts analytical testing of productsRaw material sourcing and approvalAccelerated and real-time shelf life studies of product/sDrawing up packaging brief for product; sourcing and approval of suitable packing materialLiaising with suppliers, stores, and buyersAssisting in product launchSupports cross-functional team and manage product cost-cutting, sensory evaluation, and reformulation and improvement of current productsAssisting in training a DSE panelPanel leader in consumer tests and trialsAgent for continuous improvement, drives results, and assist in problem-solving/root cause investigations of production problemsImplementing and sustaining food safety system compliance in the area of controlEnsuring the required quality, safety, hygiene, and environmental standards are implemented, maintained, and improvedEnsuring hygiene standards, cleaning procedures, practices, and equipment are continually re-evaluated and in line with best practice, customer guidelines, and legislationEnsuring cleaning procedures in food manufacturing areas are maintained and correct use of cleaning materials (from handling, to storage and documentation)Qualifications and ExperienceDegree in Food Science Required BSc Majoring in food technology preferred 5 years experience Strong Analytical Skills (MS Access, MS Excel Simulation, Operational Research) Ingredient/equipment sourcing, approval, procurement, product costing, product development HACCP and Food Safety Legislation knowledge Good Interpersonal Relationships and Strong Communication Skills Must be self-motivated, disciplined, ethical and confident Excellent Organizational and Work Planning Skills Attention to Detail and Results Driven Computer literacy, Word, Microsoft, etc. Salary - Market related
